Hey @Madhu, @Devendra_singh I don't have philosophy as an optional. However, I m very keen on reading in-depth meaning of famous quotes of various philosophers. Can u suggest any book for the same? Thankyou
@Smile here is one interesting text on Interpretation of Patanjali Sutras yoga by OSHO.Penguin Publishing.I have read it.Its interesting and amazing work of OSHO.Minute observations which we miserably miss in our daily lives. An eye opening book.Even you can go for OSHO'S other literature on different philosophy. His books are conjugating point of Modern and the Ancient. He has wrote on 12 different religions interpretations of the world. Read this thrilling text after reading OSHOS yoga.Book-An Autobiography of Yogi and you will really like it and there will be some form of transcendental realization dawn upon you.It will give you a glimpse of the unheard moments in a life of a yogi. But OSHO will quench your thirst for knowledge and you will appreciate his outlook towards this world.
P.S. I am not an OSHO follower.I read his books because it really clarifies one's irrationality and set oneself on the path of common sensical and rational thoughts.

There are standard references available.Subject is interesting. So here are list of Books and study material of Mitras Ias with mindmaps and for some Topics you can refer to Patanjali Notes too.such as Indian Philo. but for western philo. Strictly no no coz it is really tough to understand without concepts.DO NOT MISS THOSE MINDMAPS.WILL HELP IN COVERING THE WHOLE CHAPTER WITH INTERLINKAGES.I have made notes converging both but now m prefering class notes of mitras nd mindmaps.only some notes of patanjali for critical comments.
India Philosophy Mitras Ias Class notes nd mindmaps of each chapter and Patanjali Notes(leave nyaya vaisheshik, you vil find gud in mitras notes) READ THIS BOOKS ONLY WHEN YOU ARE DONE WITH NOTES DUTT AND CHATTERJEE C.D.SHARMA
WESTERN Mitras Ias notes nd mind maps. .Patanjali printed notes are really tough for beginner to understand. They are gud for 2nd reading READ THIS BOOKS ONLY WHEN YOU ARE DONE WITH NOTES Masiah
Socio Political Mitras Ias,some topics from Patanjali printed notes. PHILO.OF RELIGION- Mitras Ias notes will come handy as this topic needs lot of comparision which is justified by this notes. O.P.GABA(Though I have not read)
@Madhu Why are coaching notes so important? Can't we prepare the subject using standard books? I am just a beginner. Please help me out. I have seen videos on western philosophy for basic understanding (link below). Should I proceed with a standard book further?
For Indian philosophy will be watching (to get an overview)
For religious philosophy
For social and political
Are these videos worth watching?? I don't wanna use coaching notes. Is there a way out?
@Chomuphilosopher Philosophy is such a vast subject that if the UPSC syllabus is not adhered to you may read unrelated concepts which may not be of any utility with regards to UPSC.PLEASE>>>>PLEASE do not transgress the syllabus or else you may consume a lot of time in unnecessary stuff. We are not here to become philosopher but rather just to study the subject and appreciate it in an UPSC way .Now if any No vice starts with the standard reference and if he is of non philosophy BACKGROUND IT WILL COMPLICATE the matter and you may read the whole chapter without gaining an insight into the philosophers ideas and theories. Once you are done with the UPSC syllabus and grasp the concept in its whole then you can mov e to standard text and you will feel the bliss and enlighten is bound to dawn with a flair of appreciation for the subject. You will start loving it and simple reason for this is standard reference has many pre determinants.Otherwise philosophy might become a burden and boredom will discourage and disinterest you. I have just glanced upon some videos and I would like to conclude that if you will refer this it will take much more time than expected. i.e.2.5 mths is the standard duration of Philo. course by Mr.Mitra. So please @chomuphilosopher pay heed to what I said and you can even verify by consulting with your seniors and you will get the same reply .
P.S. Above videos are not an integral part of philosohpy Syllabus. So you have literally foregone 60 minutes at this stage itself. There may be relevance but most of it is alien to the syllabus of UPSC.
