I'm a bodybuilder not in the sense of getting on the stage and winning medals but I only want to keep being fit with lean muscles. I'm spending 1 hour in the gym for 3 days per week alternatively not because it interrupts my studies, but because I get bored easily when I go to the gym daily. You need to have a proper schedule for both studies and gym and follow it religiously so that you won't feel exhausted or overworked.

Bro iam in bodybuilding since 10 years...... But this preparation will....take may things.... But i do workout at home i have my own setup
I empthaise with you. Have been working out for 5 years (on and off), have a visible 6 pack, athletic body.
here are my two cents Think of boydbuilding as a lifestyle. You have to work out, take care of your meals and need ample rest for recovery (reason for most injuries is overtrainig, myself had a bicep tendinitis that kept me out for 1 year)
When i started my prep, I used to go to the gym 3-4 times a week and do strength training (not a fan of cardio, good for conditioning but not for bodybuilding per say in terms of ROI)
Fallout of this approach 1) was getting inadequate rest which interfered with my studies as one wants to be mentally and physically fresh for productivity
2) time spent was too much i.e 1 hour in the gym, warm up and cool down (avoiding injuries) and then meal prep and eating
Had a word with my friend, and this is my approach now.
Whenever Ive had a heavy day of study, i go to gym after as a stress buster. Mild workout that do not require much time and rest. Just do a maintenance workout. Adding muscle as of now would be challenging (rest is the key factor)
Diet pattern - Has been tailored according to my study routine (not vice versa)
I work out in the evening when I have mentally exhausted myself, work out and then do round two of light studies before I sleep
My holistic advice to you is, set your priorities. If it is to be an officer, then that should be number one thing on your mind. Take workout as mood enhancer, but dont centre your day around it. Important to realise that UPSC itslef is a lifestyle, and the opportunity will remain only for a few years.
Dont be afraid of losing your gains, you have no idea about the power of muscle memory. In the end think of it like this, do you want to have the best body right now (which almost every guy in metropolitan cities have these day) or do you want body with a uniform on it (now thats exclusivity)
