Molela Art Molela village in Rajsamand district is famous for terracotta art/clay work It has been awarded GI tag The Kumhars (potters) of Molela make variety of art works such as devotional plaques, large panels depictingfolk dieties life and smaller items such as domestic ware but it is the hand-modelled, hollow relief votive plaques that they are most famous for. Clay is sourced locally from areas along small drains and ponds. This clay is extremely moldable and is of two types: 1)Nada a coarse black clay and 2) Alu a finer grain clay.The two clays are mixed together in equal parts with the addition of donkey dung and rice husk. Different handmade works of art are made from this clay mixture and then are baked in fire For the molela terracotta art Mohanlal has been awarded the Padmshree award.He founded an institution named ‘Mohan Terracotta Art Research & Development centre. join- @prepRASRPSCenglish
UNESCO Cultural and natural heritage sites of Rajasthan Natural site- keoladeo ghana bird sanctuary – Bharatpur ( first world heritage site in rajasthan declared in 1985) Cultural heritage- 1. Jantar Mantar- Jaipur 2. forts of Chittorgarh, Kumbhalgarh Jaisalmer,Ranthambhor Amer and Gagron fort 3. Ravanahatha • It is an ancient stringed instrument of Rajasthan. It is considered as the predecessor of the Violin. • It includes a bow that is drawn across the strings to create musical vibrations • The structure of a Ravanahatha includes an 80-90cm long bamboo stem, at the end of which half a coconut shell is attached, the shell is covered by goat hide. The stem is punctured at regular intervals to fix the knobs which helps in fine tuning the music. • According to mythology, the instrument was devised by Ravana of Sri Lanka, who used to play melodious tunes on the instrument to please Lord Shiva. It is believed that after the great battle between lord Rama and Ravana, Hanuman had carried this instrument to the western part of India. • The very name of the instrument, Ravanahatha - literal for Ravana’s hand, supports this tale to be its inception. • It is played by the Bhopas of Pabuji and Dungi-Jawaharj
Pichhwai Painting, Nathdwara Pichhwai paintings are popular in Nathdwara, Rajsamand Pich is a Sanskrit word which means back and wais means hanging. These paintings are cloth paintings hung behind the image of lord Shrinathji Influence of Vallabha sect hence dominant theme was Krishna leena, cows , mother Yashoda and dense vegetation, banana tress were also painted Dominant colour- yellow, green and lemon colour on the background. Royal Cenotaphs (Chhatris) of Rajasthan The word Chhatri means "canopy" or "umbrella. It is of a memorial, usually very ornate, built over the site where the funeral (cremation) of the member of royal family was performed. Such memorials usually consist of a platform girded by a set of ornate pillars that hold up a stone canopy. Chhatris of prominent Rajput dynasties of Rajasthan 1. Gaitore Cenotaphs, Jaipur- the literal meaning of Gaitore is ‘Gaye ki Thor’ meaning resting place of the departed. It has chhatris of the Kachwaha royal dynasty of Amer. Sawai Jai Singh II's Chhatri is noteworthy because of the carvings that have been used to embellish it. 2. Bada Bagh, Jaisalmer- Bhati Rajputs of Jaisalmer 3. Jaswant Thada- Jodhpur The Jaswant Thada is a cenotaph of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. It was built by Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur in memory of his father, Maharaja Jaswant Singh after whom the cenotaph is named It is made of white marble hence popularly known as Taj Mahal of Rajasthan * second Taj Mahal of Rajasthan- Abli Meeni Palace at Mukundara hills in Kota The cenotaphs and pillars have intricate carvings and bears paintings and pictures of the deceased rulers.
