after removing repetitive, anomalous, fake, maleficent data
little more than 3 percent people absent, i.e. 500 people
segregating responses of senior players (with 2 to 4 attempts) and with good marks in last mains, we could notice - much higher proficiency in optional papers average marks unattempted or poorly attempted - 1 - 45, 2 - 30, 3 - 50, 4 - 30,
our analysis was made easier by the fact that average gs 1 and gs 2 marks were common.
ceterus paribus, the analysis based on their past marks and current attempt, gives us a rough idea that a good attempt of a question would fetch 45 percent marks on an average in paper 1 and 40 percent marks in paper 2, 45 percent marks in paper 3 the above result was on assumption that all papers were of equal difficulty, now assuming paper 2 was easier would give a common figure of 45 percent
poorly attempted/ left by all paper 1 - 62 paper 2 - 48 paper 3 - 57 paper 4 - 22 optionals - less than 40 each
expected averages paper 1 - 85 paper 2 - 91 paper 3 - 87 paper 4 - 103 optionals - 96 total - 620-650 (predicted cut-off for interview calls - 680-720) (assumption - not all above average candidates get calls, only top 17 percent) assumption 2 - least serious 50 percent had no representation in the poll => new cutoff - 620-650
note on demographics - almost equal mix of all age groups, but most respondents were giving 1st or 2nd attempt only
@woman Thanks. I found your poll to be simple and useful. While the die hard fans of statistics can always present the so called highly accurate and more representative polls, UPSC has a way of making all predictions and statistics irrelevant. So all i want from such a survey is How much are people expecting in a particular subject...or what they feel should be the good enough marks to get an interview call. Cheers
