@DNA In paper -2, the topic religion & society has been classified under social structure. But, secularization is a sign of social change. So we can't put this sub topic in religion and society.
The topic "Secularization" is mentioned under RELIGION AND SOCIETY in Paper 1, but under POLITICS AND SOCIETY in Paper 2. Any idea why?
Because religion is all pervasive and part and parcel of society(religious conflicts, recent 24 pargana west Bengal) in India which has also embraced politics as well e.g parties made on religious lines(AIMIM, Akali Dal) and asking votes in the name of religion. Therefore role and need of secularization of Politics and society becomes all the more important. Since these are some of burning problems in India, there is no better place to put topic of secularization than under the title " Politics and society"
Agree with your stand on Indian context. Why it is not in POLITICS AND SOCIETY in Paper 1?
Because Paper 1 deals with sociology as a discipline and not specific to Indian society only. Religion does't play any significant role in Politics in western society particularly due to its homogeneous demography and also due to separation of religion from state. Moreover conflicts in western societies in name of religion are also unheard of. Therefore religion is studied as separate and independent Social Institution/fact. Whereas Indian society is extremely heterogeneous divided across religion, region, caste, race and other demographic factors.

Very true! It is the different interpretation and definition of SECULARISM in west and in India. In India SECULARISM means equal treatment of all religion by STATE. Whereas, in west it means complete separation.

Castes that are close on hierarchical scale enjoy similar (though not same) socio-economic status. Also, their aspirations are identical. They often vie for the same set of employment opportunities, govt. benefits, social status etc. That's why frictions are more.
