Wish i had marked a few more jismain feel aa ri thi. Is baar poora 2 ghanta use kiya jaega. Target- aleast 90.
  • 120-125 expected in 2017 waah ! Itne marks toh kabhi mocks mein bhi nahin aaye! Issey kharab shock nahin lag sakta tha prelims se pehle !116 is quite ridiculous
I scored around 100-130 in previous years mocks. Could not clear last year.

Whats funny is that difficulty of mocks is higher than upsc's. But upscs undpredicablity and suprise element makes it more difficult than mocks.

I attempted 80 questions last year. Scored 106 and 114 acc to keys. I had guessed options 20 remaining questions but did not attempt. Out of them 9 were right. I felt like an idiot afterwards

Solving all 100 questions by elimination technique and guess work is the best strategy for prelims imo. This time I wont hestitate. I will solve all 100 irrespective of difficulty level of paper.
Attempting all 100 questions won't work if paper comes similar to 2013-14.

I score more in mocks too when I attempt 100.

Dont want to have any regrets after pre.
  • If you want to score 140 in pre, then you WILL HAVE TO attempt around 90 questions. And it can be done, provided you solve first round of certain questions(adound 55) in first 50 minutes itself. Then do thorough brainstorming over options and questions. However know the difference between brainstorming and overthinking.
  • Those who are planning to attempt 100, would you attempt questions like araghatta that came previous year.
    It's easier said than done
  • its bs fixing how much to attempt before the actual exam.If paper is on the lines of 2015 or 2016 attempt 85+ preferably 92-95 if its 2014 esque attempts should be limited to 80-82 again increase or decrease depending on the number of multiple statement t/f types which are sure shot traps and lead to negatives. For kbc type questions where u have eliminated even 1 or maybe 2 just go with ur luck if ur score is lesser than 110 in first round.

exactly....Beside ye tukkebaji har kisi ko suit nahi karti...With observations of solving many mock tests, in my case it backfired badly when I attempted more than 85...May be lack of skill or luck whatever...my attempt will be from 70-80 in any type of paper..

exavtly i marked 10 questions on booklet but did not have courage to mark it on OMR sheet and after consulting with the coaching institute 7 unmarked questions were correct, i was getting 114 and missed the bus due to my own fear, this year i will attempt 100.
Then how You are rank 259?
  • Guys, UPSC knows that most of the serious aspirants study PT 365 upside down. They also know that how a current affairs oriented paper with direct questions from coaching notes increased the cutoff. History says that whenever there is an increase in cutoff, upsc toughens it up the very next year. For example, 2013 CSAT was a dolly and 2014 was a tough nut. Cutoff came down from 241 to 205.

So, expect a lot of art and culture, core environment, tougher economy and tougher history questions this year. Goegraphy is another candidate for tough questions and there was hardly anything from geo last year. If possible, give minimal time to current affairs and revise as much static content as possible. This will be a tougher prelims and more suited to those who don't guess. This is what I anticipate.
