Many states in India have taken up community policing in some form or the other. Be it ‘Maithri’ in Andhra Pradesh, ‘Friends of Police’ in Tamil Nadu, Mohalla Committees in Bhiwandi (Maharashtra), there have been several success stories from all over the country.

I will be adding some of the current initiatives which I have been collecting since Jan.
A) GARV. 1. Grameen Vidyutikaran Web Platform for monitoring rural electrification projects. 2. Grameen Vidyut Abhiyans > citizens registered with Power Ministry to record ground level realities and they upload the data on GARV app. 3. Impact : Centre is now able to rectify lots of anomalies in the data furnished by state discoms.
Under 1. E Governance. Changing landscape of monitoring system. Third party evaluation 2. Involving citizens. Participation. 3. Improves Transparency as progress on each states are published openly.
B ) Power of Pressure Groups/Informal association. 1. Centre withdrew taxation proposals on withdrawals from EPF corpus following outrage and protests. 2. Centre has withdrawn the notification which restricted withdrawal from EPF until the concerned individual turns 58 following Bangalore based spontaneous protests.
Under 1. Transcending conventional accountability (Parl and its committees) 2. Check on govt's discretionary power through democratic protests.
C) SWIFT 1. Single window electronic clearance for imports instituted by Customs 2. Multi-agency coalition. Animal - Drug - fssai - Plant protection - Wildlife Crime Control - Textile Council
Under 1. Ease of Doing Business 2. Coordination for better governance
D) Rajasthan's Police Performance Management System 1. Measurable set. Scoring matrix of 14 parameters 2. Both positive n negative score are given to each police station. 3. Rajnath had recommended to include "public perception" as one of the parameters besides promising to adopt this model for national level programme.

E) Govt hunt for Innovative solutions to solve Urbanisation miseries 1. R&D think tank will be set up by Centre for the selected ULBs. 2. ULBs > proposals > Centre if accepted > Institute it. Area specific. 3. Funds wil b shared in the ratio, Centre : Edu Institution : ULB = 50 : 40 : 10
Under 1. Smart City 2. Separate think tank for ULBs to institutionalize expert knowledge connection with governance. 3. Use this for redressal when you write answer to bureaucracy's apathy/ LSBs inadequate capacity etc..
