Just few words about my self developed strategy which helped to score 140+ in PT *read Hindu daily & write few punch points daily Ex- blue Mormun, REDD+ * review insights current affairs daily update with a gap of 10 days from the Hindu reading, which will help you revise & gain better insights. Again write punch points from insights which may be a repetition * in addition join, give, revise insights pre test series at least 3-4 times, again write punch points in the copy * If you religiously follow above approach, then before next pre you will have 30-40 pages worth solid mix of current affairs & static portion as well.
For me this approach worked. But thoroughly revising those 30-40 pages with help of Google would take me 6 hours at a stretch, so it's easier said than done. Thank you!
^^ It is not the last resort, it is the ONLY resort if you want to score 140+. You can't expect to know the absolutely correct answers to 70+ questions while entering the exam hall, especially in a mix of conceptual+factual paper.
rightly said doc..in nutshell "elimination is not easy but become easy when u shed sweat in test series"...elimination require diversified knowledge and practice to achieve in +...hence this last resort work for all unknowledgable homosapiens like us.
See , this is the exact reason why prelims has become a game of luck , this year I was sure of 58 qs they were 100 percent correct ,now 58 would have given me 118 marks and frankly speaking that would have been enough, however this very thing kept on playing at the back of my mind that there will be candidates who will attempt all 100 qs and thus I took a gamble and attempted seven more , now the result is that i am out ( diff would not be more than 1 marks at the maximum i am getting 114 according to shankar's key) moreover if the paper had more from static portion like polity, geo, etc I would have attempted more , but then the paper was all facts and with facts its either you know them or you don't . Things need to change , people clearing it riding high on their luck is something that is just not done.
I don't understand what is the use of negative marking when it is not acting as a deterrent , I say either increase the negative marking( deduct the whole 2marks for every wrong answer ) or completely remove it , if someone clears pre then it should be based on his hardwork not his luck. Earlier if a person was writing mains , it used to mean something , now its best that i keep my views to myself so as to maintain the dignity of this public forum. The way this selection process is working is complete antithesis of what a slection process ought to be.
Since next year prelims is in June, I plan to start to mock tests from 1st week of April till the last and complete all insights & vision tests available till then. After attending each test, some time should be spent in researching, learning those questions which went wrong, could not be attended or got correct through a wild guess. Extract only those questions & their solutions from the "solutions PDF" provided by them using a tool like NitroPDF (Trial version) and then save it in your PC under different folders like Modern India, Medieval, Ancient, Culture, Rivers, Economy, Agriculture etc and also any additional reference materials regarding each topic. This will help you to avoid making handwritten notes and save time. By May you will have free simulator, open tests, which you should attend and follow the same process mentioned above along with your static portions/ current affairs revision.
So by June 2nd week, you will have enough material from various sources to revise them over and over again. For mock tests revision, just open those topic wise PDFs and read them. That should do I guess.
P.S: But if your coverage of static portions is weak (1st timers), and find it difficult to follow a systematic plan of mock tests and studies daily, there is no harm in starting the mock test by May, provided you can finish 30 odd of them by the end and do revision till prelims. I cleared Prelims this time with this strategy. 120+.
