  • can anyone tell me if my first preferance is IPS and suppose i get it later if i wish to sit for IFS/IAS will i be allowed?unlike IAS/IFS
  • @skylax I saw that, however, one doesn't need to pay anything if he/she upgrades from one AIS/Group A service to another. As in, someone selected in IAAS/IDES/IRTS/Even IOFS to IAS/IPS/any-other. So I don't know what is special with IPS and what are the hidden charges. Lol.

For that matter, if you are SELECTED and JOIN, say IRS and then 2 years later you get into IAS, it is taken as a Intra-Government thing. And as you are ALREADY a part of GoI, it is considered as a change of Ministry/controlling authority. One even gets to retain/maintain the Salary Scale that he/she may have gotten due to their service experience in the earlier service. However, service-wise seniority is an independent thing. This is to the best of my knowledge.

@caartey Lol. Could be! Only @vibin can answer that. And yes, appreciate the initiative. :)
Oh okay. Don't know much about these in-service rules really :)

Regarding the observation someone made about UPSC making default choices for people making no preferences beyond, say, IAS/IPS/IFS, I think it is more of a historical vestige: govt probably couldn't fathom, 20 years back, why someone would not go for a Group-A job :P

Times are changing, maybe soon they will change it to JEE counselling model (you are only considered for the college+branch option you fill).

It doesn't hurt the person, of course, DoPT can't make anyone join a service. However, it's a loss for a hard-working student somewhere who would have gladly accepted the service. Reserve list takes care of that, yes, but there is a huge delay. People move on with their lives.

@rav23cbzx I believe one would be allowed. AFAIK, rules talk only about those getting IAS/IFS not being able to re-appear, if they accept the service. There is no mention about one getting his/her 1st preference and whether or not to be allowed again. Why would one do that is a different question! Lol

Bhai! Sir na banao, abhi tak toh bas @woodpecker ko hi tokna padta tha! :P

@skylax I know there would be those who would happily accept Group-A services and due to the delay, people do move on.

because i believe i can easily get my home state with not that high rank as told by my IAS(on probation) relative but here senior IPS officers are blinded by mafia's big bribe money like i once previously posted they even tried to falsely implicate probationary IPS so keeping my options open if i fall into same situation...provided age/attempts are on my side :P

@rav23cbzx Hmm. I get your point. However, you need to note that there are all kind of people in all the services and all the states.

Also, it would be inappropriate to generalize that ALL senior IPS officers are blinded by Mafia's bribe money. That would be very incorrect. Secondly, do you think that job-pressure and issues would not be there in IAS or any other service? Each of the service has its own pros and cons and so does each state. Its always better to decide on your choice of service/state based on your interest/and other such factors than political/peer pressure and such.

Having said that, its indeed correct that chances of getting IAS with home-cadre are limited to very few. And with a good rank (good enough to get you IAS/IFS) someone opting for IPS, can get home-cadre.

BTW, The vacancies for Jharkhand are as follows:

    IAS - Total Vacancy = 8, Insider = 3, Outsider = 5, Insider (UR/General) = 1
    IPS - Total Vacancy = 3, Insider = 3, Outsider = 0, Insider (UR/General) = 2

    @fallen_leaves
sir indeed it is wrong to categorize all IPS officers in the same bracket but my lines were based on a SP's statement(domicile punjab) who was quite irritated by the system here what better source than a IPS himself even K vijay kumar was left disappointed so i have read
i am aware of the political/peer pressure in such services but framing of a young honest officer who was just doing his job is just outrageous even you will agree agar aap apna kaam nahi kar sakte to kam se kam sahi aadmi ko phansao to mat...ok we should leave it at that :)
  • @rav23cbzx Lol! I can understand. But, different people, different opinions :) Anyways, I too am from Jharkhand and my father is a senior bureaucrat of Jharkhand cadre, so I am kind-of aware of the realities, within and outside. But wahi hai, every State/Service/thing has its own pros and cons.
