I have given Mains with Sociology twice. I have read notes of Ramaswamy Delhi but felt that they were inadequate. Now I feel that books have to be read no matter what if one wants to succeed. Last year(2014) I got 99+115 , this year I fared worse than last year. I am unable to organise the subject matter for reading and I am wasting a lot of time while searching for sources. Can anyone guide me how should I go about it and how to improve my marks in Sociology?

Haan its possible to cover this optional. May , Aug,Sept , Oct , Nov. These many months r sufficient for it. Many candidates study for 1-2 months and score decent marks in this optional. Even coaching institutes of Socio cover optional in 2-3 months.

I would like to differ.
First of all Sociology is not easy. it just appears to be. Sociological perspective takes time to develop. Also a person reading it first time will not be able to complete with good grasp in just 3 months even while devoting many hours to the subject. Yes 3 months are enough for a reading. But here the syllabus is demanding depth of masters level and if you have seen last years question paper you will know what i'm talking about.
no coaching is less than 3-4 months and none are covering the syllabus in its entirety.
Also keep in mind that in any optional you are competing with people who have been familiar with the subject for 3-5 years. It is just impossible to write as good answers as them with 3 months of study. GS type answers do not fetch good marks in sociology. Rather they irritate the person checking the answer.
Finally getting tired with ones optional should not be a reason for taking a "popular" optional.
