Yes...sects start out as an offset and in somewhat protest to some aspects of parent religion but when they acquire a large following,respect in the society they are treated as Denomination...Vaishnavism and shavism...has a narrow base compared to how big indian hindu society is....people worship vishnu, shiva but others as well...its not like majority of followers follow either vaishnavim or shivaism and that too in exclusion to others....this is what i understand...feel free to criticize or add

Many practices , rituals , festivals are common to them which are emphasized by Hinduism. Ex : Rameswaram temple will be visited by both vaishnavism and shaivism followers alike.
I think they are denominations. Sects do require a deviation from standard religion. E.g. krishna consciousness in case of west. They rigidly guard their distinct practices. No such thing happens in vaishnavism/shaivism. They worship gods within the ambit of hinduism only.

Friends is it important to join test series for sociology mains 2016? Isn't possible to practice it myself with all the test papers and materials available free of cost on various websites. The only drawback is lack to exam like environment and expert evaluation.. Why to waste money isn't? Please senior players throw some light on it?
