Why is that every debate on this forum ends up in a fight or people humiliating each other . I came here to discuss things and not debate. That is why i put my views as questions...so that somebody could answer it . Why do people get so offensive?
@princessso free basics is not for poor they, can't afford smartphones/computers, won't be able to comprehend English properly (all allowed websites in eng) and/or don't care much about using internet. Too busy making ends meet. It's targeted at middle/lower middle class cash strapped teenagers who are pretty much content with facebook, a handful of sites and some dirty sites. Most companies have teenagers as their target group. They will be at Zuckerberg's mercy for advertising there products. Not just that schools, colleges and pretty much everything else will be heavily dependent on free basics(FB). New e-commerce as well as old e-com companies will depend on FB. Innovation dies. And Mark will control a large chunk of Indian businesses. Needless to say he'll also have significant political clout. And of course we'll lose a lot of money as profits will be taken back to USA.
Last but not the least our coming generation may become more complacent and stupid (If that is even possible) as their digital world will be significantly narrowed down. But then again I could be wrong.

It's not free and it's not for the poors. Nothing is for poors. Nobody makes money from the poors. They are POOR.
The definition of poor here cannot be taken as the conventional one. With innovation and fierce competition the price of smartphones has gone down considerably.It will go down further in near future. In this case ...yes nobody makes money from the poor...the Telcos are paying for it. Take it as an advertisement expenditure to widen its market. Vying for profits is not a sin. Again i mention this scheme has an exit policy.No body flogs us if you want to switch to freer internet. As far as the language problem is concerned ...many websites are providing content in local language. Innovation does not die.Infact a tie up between google and airtel is not unfathomable. May be some amendments in the free basics policy can be sought.But a complete rejection is uncalled for.

There are a lot of issues here. Your sticking point is it is free, so why stop.
Why stop? 1. Why does all the data go through facebook servers? By putting the poor in firing range, he is firing upon all of us. 2. The poor. Who is the poor? The person who is finding it hard to make ends meet, i assume will not care about free basics. The person who has money for a smart phone, i assume will have enough for basic 2g internet.
3. Ok, you still want it to be free because paisa nahi lagta.
Zukerberg is not running a charity. All telecos are not fools.
If you have been following the net neturality debate, you will know how telecos wanted to charge whatsapp messaging because their sms service was going in a loss. They wanted to charge free calls by whatsapp, which has been a revolution, because people were not using their overly expensive call charges. Profit is the motive. Profit is not malicious. But profit itself isnt a saint. There is a reason non profit organizations exists. The reason is, when profit is the sole motive, profit needs to be got at any cost. Please follow the tactics used in US by companies such as comcast.
4. Ok, but free is free. Free me mil raha hai tho mana kese kare? Poor, and me, will be harmed.
Let me tell you a story. A few years back, China started exporting potatoes at a very low cost to Chile, coz they overproduced. This is called dumping. They sold at a very low cost. Customers happy. Esp. the poor is very very happy.
Now, poor chiliean farmers were going at a loss. They stopped producing potatoes. Chile subsequently became dependednt on China for potatoes. Now, after a few years, China jacked up the prices because of domestic shortage. Poor chile was screwed as it did not have any other option but to pay. There was no home production to subsidize, dehoard, price control etc. And the poor is now very unhappy.
That is why anti dumpting laws exists. And govt. regulations exists.
5. MAGAR FREE HAI. IT IS FREE. WHY SHOULD I SPEND MONEY. Google bhi aa jayega thode dino mein. Google will come and join and there will be innovation and invention.
The real world sadly does not run like this. If orkut had free basics, there will be no facebook. If microsoft had free basics, there will be no google.
6. MAGAR there is exit policy. You come, you go. Noone is stopping you. Sadly, reality differs here too. Once facebook starts, other will too. Like airtel started airtel zero, others like idea supported in their comments to TRAI. Please go through them.
7. My dear, there is no such thing as a free lunch. Our current extension services, such as NGOs, Govt. agencies which are running at the ground level are doing a good job. We need the internet and digital connectivity which provides unrestricted access. Numerous studies have shown this to be much more useful.
You are in fact maligning the poor as people who do not exercise choice. They will be happy as it is free. Why should we take away their right to choose?
Agar Discom electricity mein differentiate kare, they will give free electricity to the poor. But only 1 tubelight. Jyada mein loss ho jayega. They will charge twice for microoven, thrice for refrigerator. Because poor dont use frige, and Indian is a poor country. Right?

a. Why does every data goes through facebook servers
b. Why is there a clause that they can deny anyone from joining free basics (no google you are our main competitor you won't be joining)

d. Why does facebook supports net neutrality in Freign countries like US (because if google does the same there then facebook wouldn't even existed)
Conclusion and another view point, the question about freedom, speech and data privacy: See my dear, the internet is the last bastion of free speech that is left. It has been nothing sort of a revolution. In an atmosphere were the govt. is trying to control data, spying on citizens, criminal defamation laws, NSA scandle, you really think we should let facebook, and other telecoms, control our data? For controlling data, the first step is removing encryption.
You are asking for something which will eventually lead to orwell's 1984 right here in 2016. Read the book, you will liek it. Or the movie V for Vandetta. A surveillance state. This is a fight which will define our generation. Thankfully, the US took the right step, and for what it seems, we will too. I hope you hop on board.
NET NEUTRALITY:IPS(Internet srvice providr)should treat all all data fairly i.e. no discrimination viz.faster or cheaper access to some services,or other prefrential treatment.
