  • India-Pakistan relations...
The Bromance recently seen between Pm Modi n his Pakistani counterpart at Lahore for some was just attention grabbing stunt to feed media.while for others its significant and responsive step by two nuclear capable hostile negihbours for better relations.Infect, the December-15 meeting of Nsa of india mr.Ajit Dovel and Pakistan mr.Nasir.j has begun thawing the frozen relations.the recent talk involved almost all issues of mutual concern including the K-factor.And may be considered new beginning towards confidence building and nuclear risk reduction measures. Its needed particularly when world is looking to sub-continent as next global engine for greater prosperity.

Why India-Pakistan relations should go beyond VIP LOBBY?
Because upsc wanted it in 2015 mains..
well civil society may simplify the relations, help bridge mutual trust given shared culture, custom n ofcourse cricket..
    Important initiatives-in P2P bridging includes
    Aaghag-e-Dosti,Aman-ki-Asha..
    Bollywood movies-Bagranji Bhaijaan..Heros-beluvd Fawad khan,Ali jafar..

    Wrt previous year questions-
Taskhent agreement,Indias role in 1971 war to Free Bengladesh, shimla agreement, what made partition inevitable, what was Jinnah's 14point agenda,1916 lucknow pact n repurcussions,Govt of India act 1906,1919,1935...1937 All India muslim league sesion.,1940 lahore session of muslim league, cripps mission,Mfn status etc

    Major irritant:
Terrorism recently Pathankot n Gurdaspur, ceasefire violations, illegal trades,Chinese muscle flexing, conflict of interest in Afghanistn,Pakistan basically having procedure of democracy not intent of demon.also wrt India military do have final say.
But the thing is y alws major breakthrough is expected when leaders of two nations meet, also y such meeting seen in sidelines of other events?n y mr. shareef 4 points proposal is not given importance by India?..

    P.S. Please do post q& a
  • TIME LINE OF INDIA-PAKISTAN RELATIONS:

1947:Britain divides its Indian empire into secular India and Islamic nation Pakistan. This triggered one of greatest and bloodist migration in Modern history.

1947/48:The British particularly Redcliffe drawn very messy line of partition.so many princley states remained disputed terrotory.one such being J&K with Muslim population in majority ruled by Hindu raja Hari singh. The war over kashmir thus was obvious. To resolve the conflict UN Ordered ceasefire and askd for conducting plebiscites among people to decide their own nationality.the plebiscite tectically never occured.

1965:Pakistan till time had pivotal in USA's cantonment policy of preventing expansion of commission in south-Asia.was garnard with usa's Jet aircraft and vintage tanks.Armed Pakistan became Ghatak for Ghayal India aftr post china war setback. The Indo-Pak war n Un ordered ceasefire.

1966:Tashken Agreement accord-between Indias Pm L.B.Shastri and Pakistans prez Gen Ayub...to end the war ,withdrawl of arm personnel, non interfernce, discourage propaganda disturbing relations, follow vienna convention of 1961.

1970:first general elections in Pakistan→least representation of East Pakistan→civil war broke out.

1971:India-pakistan war leading to rise of new nation Bengladesh.

    1972 Shimla agreement:dhak k teen paat..Indira and Bhutto..end d conflict,confrontations,principles governing future of their relations.follow principles n purpose of un charte,peaceful bilateral relations,refrain from use of threat.

1974:India detonates its nuclear capability bringing bilalteral relations to stand still.

1989:seperatist revolt in JnK.India accused Pakistan

1998:India went for second nuclear test followed by chota bhai Pakistan.→Both invited global slam, sanctions n criticim as both not signed Npt,Ctbt.

1999:Vagypee as Pm tried for major breakthrough in bilateral relations. The Lahore summit the two head of states agreed for better trade, communication and cultural n scientific exchange.wagah border open since then. But,K is in DNA of Pakistani nationalism, but kargil conflict was more then ritual muscle flexing by pakistan.it confirms that wrt bilateral relations with India, pakistani army has final say.

2000-01:Agra summit btwn mr. Vajapyee n praveez..followed by twin peak of violence agnst India,LeT hamla on Indias parliament, heavy firing along line of control

    2003:Ceasefire agreement.

    2008-09:
Mumbai terror attack n probable involvement of Pakistan deef frozen relations. However,Pakistans probe in mumbai terror issue was cautiously welcomed by India.

2010-12:Manmoha n zardari continue meeting..don no what for?

2013-14-15-16:repeated violation of ceasefire agreement.accusations, continous reiterations for constructive dialogue,India becomung blue navy capable,Pakistan getting closer to china,Russia.

  • Is it feasible to hold a referendum on kashmir issue? And how kashmir(india) and tibet (china)issues are similar and different?
  • @princessso..
Is it feasible to hold a referendum on kashmir issue? And how kashmir(india) and tibet (china)issues are similar and different?
Referndum on kashmir issue is debatable...on one hand it may be justice.. wrt demand of people of Kashmir...also when UKs scotland went for it den y not kashmir. but not to forget forced exodus of kashmiri pandits there absence may not reflct d real demand ,highly disputed politicised, polarised, pakistan influenced junta may
    not calculated decisions..etc..
  • If pakistan has succeded in influencing kashmiris(indians)....can't indian government and its policies be blamed for this?
  • correct me if wrong..Tibet n kashmir both are disturbd regions challenging idea of nation in their respective country..both have faced alienation, military interventions, economic backwardness etc..
but kashmir is also disputed territory unlike Tibet..the seperatist movement of kashmir nurtured terrorism,it was basically result of bloodshed partn .but tibet do have more genuine reasons vis-a-vis jnk where basically politics n economic backwardness fuel hostility
  • If pakistan has succeded in influencing kashmiris(indians)....can't indian government and its policies be blamed for this?
AFSPA n excessive militrisation of valley ,lenient apprch since 1989 sepratist movement are really wrong policy making on part of India.howevr national intrst demands situational actions.but yes vajpayee line of unconnditional talk with Hurriyat, political stabilisatn n economic integrtn needs to b follwd.
  • Free basics by facebook. Why is everybody so skeptical about it? Everybody is accusing it of being an entrepreneurial tactic....what else do they expect of an entrepreneur. He is supposed to do that. India is not so priveleged to have money and then internet....we can have the other way round. We must recognise this opportunity. Anyways zuckerberg is not going to flog anyone who switches to freer internet after he/she has gainfully utiluzed the free basics platform.

This has been argued countless times. Don't start a fresh one, argue against the newspaper opeds which lambasted free basics.

The question is not free badics. Zukerberg has disguised the question of net neutrality cleaverly using an emotional argument.

    1. Free badics invovles choosing and differentiating between data. This is a violation of net neutrality.

Net neutrality means that the internet is a public utility like electricity. There discoms don't choose how much to charge you differently for using electricity for tube lights or computer. Similarly, the internet should be so. This has been accepted in USA in the tom Wheeler led fcc judgement.

    2. Things aren't so as zukerberg puts it. As he is an entrepreneur, his corporation runs on a profit. How does this profit come from in free badics?

Free basics is the first step. After telecoms are given the power to differentiate data, the will underprice certain websites and overprice others. Like overpricing WhatsApp as they are constantly damanding.

Also, its only they who choose.

    3. The marketing techniques zukerberg is using are unethical, by abusing his power in Facebook to generate consent. The fb popus only have OK and ask me later options in free basic, not dismiss or disagree. Further, he is manipulating words to seek consent.

Now if zukerberg can twist fb to provide for his needs, why won't he do that to free basics.

He is killing the very basis of the internrt, which provides for equal access and destructive innovation, this eliminating competition.
Naukri.com is not listed, but some unknown job site is. Google is not there, but Bing is. It is too much power.

    4. And lastly, how can the poor really take advantage of Facebook? This needs a smartohone, literacy, time, electricity to charge the phone, trust in the website and countless other hurdles.

Being an ias aspirant you will know that our extension services, NGOs are doing a great job in reaching out to the masses. I don't see how free basics gives more power. Zukerberg is just expanding his market base to gain more information to sell.

    5. Alternatives? We can give free internet with data caps. It's cheaper and proven to be much more useful.

Free basics is just a cunning technique to slaughter the sheep which most if the fb janta is.
