  • 3. Essay--> Work on it.
e.g I was doomed last year, thanks to Essay (35 marks)
did u get just 35 in essay last year? @MisfitMedico
  • Yes, it is. There were from blunders from my side.
  • - drop public administration.
    - Read a lot, yojana and random articles give you the necessary fodder
    - History has turned quite analytical. Good old spectrum might not suffice. Similarly for culture.
    - Factual stuff like ordinance provisions can't be ignored :-(
    - And most of this would not hold true next year. it'd continue to surprise.
aisa hi kuch ira singhal ne kaha tha mains result k baad... lekin fir usne top kia... if u knw wat i mean
  • Never believe in past year stories. ...devise ur own plan n trust it....even if u loose u loose by at least fighting as warrior. ..risks are crucial thing...rest nothing predictable. ...
    Be ready for anything
  • this is what i feel.

    1. read thoroughly, every topic mentioned in the syllabus. and read it from various sources. left wing authors and right wing authors too.
    2. while practicing answer writing at home follow a time bound approach(i used to keep a max time limit of 2hrs 45 min) it was a huge help in actual exam
    3. while reading about a topic develop your own ideas and opinions. do not blindly follow the author.

    4. most importantly MAKE your own notes. - it makes revision very very easy along with added benefit of developing the writing habit. i summarised the newspaper articles in my own words in 10-15 lines.

    5. upsc is the god here. and you can not outsmart god. they will find a way to trump us no matter how much we prepare how much we know there will be something we won't know. just leave the damn question move on to the next.
    6. always be optimistic. never loose hope.

sab baba log gyan dene lage hain.
  • Does upsc really scale marks to maintain some sort of equality between optional ? Or is it just some urban myth ? In 2014 pubad was really bad for many but people got decent scores . What do you guys reckon
  • //Takeaways from Civil Services (Mains) 2015 for the future//

    Failure, in my case.
  • The aspirants are helpful. They genuinely want to guide you. They provide you with information that they believe in.

I come from a premier institute of the country. I have seen people seeing everyone as a competition and sometimes using information as a weapon against you.

I am an aspirant who hasn't taken any coaching and didn't know the basics of writing exams. I interacted rarely with one person only who had given mains before. Besides him, since I was at home, i didn't have any other information source. After being flustered with gs2 I had fellow aspirants of my centre trying to build my confidence. Some, whose names I never knew. Some, forgetting their own sadness because of the paper.

I salute your spirits my friends. My faith in goodness is restored. Maybe because you are too idealist, waiting to face the realities of competition. Maybe because it's not important to be a member of a rat race to succeed. If such are the results of preparing for this exam, I believe I made the right choice.

May God make you reach your destiny that you deserve, sooner than later!
  • @NFAK that was brilliantly written. kudos to such selfless souls. This forum has plenty of them.
