@Stardust1901 you are very correct. The purpose of test series should neither be UPSC quality questions nor the marks they award but it should be the feedback that we receive.
  • Yes, there are enough good quality sample questions available to keep you busy for months. We can also be sure that not a single VisionIAS/Vajiram/KSG question will ever be seen in the actual UPSC paper, so there is no point in going after them unless you are getting feedback and criticism on your answers.

@Stardust1901 & others who have joined VisionIAS - their answer formats doesn't match the quality of actual expected answers. Theirs are full of facts, lengthy and crammed answers, aren't they?
  • True, the answer formats given are not helpful at all, its just a collection of facts with no effort put into organising it.
  • @Joe -

I was telling the exact same thing to one of my friends.

And how I wonder that they will check the exam on the basis of these standard answers.

    Not good.
  • @Shkk may be you are correct. But I won't reach to conclusion so fast. Only thing I know is that last year, I got no time to check any of my papers from any professor due to paucity of time. So, this time I am focusing on more writing & evaluation.

Now I have decent study circle, contacts with local professors and of course Vision IAS test series. So, I am planning to get my answers evaluated from different people.

May be we should open one thread where we can upload our answers and other candidates can comment on them. This can work as the best peer review. I am not talking about uploading complete answer booklets but particular questions where one feels need of peer review. How about it guys? @Stardust1901 @Atul and all others?

Note: even to upload 25 pages image pdf, it just takes 2mb of space. I can help you on how to reduce file to such small size and still retain it legible. Also, you guys can call seniors to such thread for their views. Let me know your views about this idea.
  • has anyone enrolled in visionias tests sent their answer scripts via email? if yes, how did they correct it? did they put their comments and corrections in the scanned pdf or took print out corrected and sent it back via post?

My personal opinion is that they have a stereotyped way of checking answer booklets with marks given according to your answers matching theirs. The old professor at UPSC will be a much learned person than the person at vision ias who has very narrow perspective of looking at things and whose only job is answer correction. If one has access to well-learnt persons in coaching institutes like Sriram at delhi he will be able to give a much good feedback on answers.

Having said that vision ias questions are good enough to give ample practice.

Also a major problem with IGNOU,DU and other good quality question banks is that the questions may not be current oriented and purely academic. Most questions in UPSC are dynamic and current affairs-based.so here the questions of these institutes helps for practice only.
  • I got one of the lowest marks in one of the tests at Vision's test series.
I was, instead, expecting a decent performance.

I'm demoralised to attempt further papers.
Anybody else feeling the same ?
