100 % agree with katju.. cow is just an animal and every one right to eat should be respected.
if everybody's rights are meant to be respected.. why people oppose reservations.. people should be allowed to carry their favourite wisky everywhere... school college church coaching centre metro.. every where..
further, why Thekas are not allowed near temples masjids Gurudwara.. allow that too
Whatever be the religious/moral arguments behind this, all I know is that beef is (mostly) banned in India. And if it is banned in India and Mr. Katju is openly saying that I eat it, he is surely violating the law of the land or atleast helping someone break it.
May be he preaches all good but why not look at mirror first...
cow slaughter is banned in most parts of INdia....however beef doesn't always mean cow meat... ...katju is clever in choosing words to avoid legal complications....beef can be buffalo meat too which is not illegal anywhere...
Can't we have a constructive discussion? you are entitled to your views as long as you justify them with reason!! just when you run out of reason you bring in religion, secular! etc! why this polarisation! it is like you are either with me or not with me!!is there no space for a reasoned argument?
religion and secularism is the base on which such discussion are built... without secularism from where you think liberals will bring their argument...
but aren't we suppose to discuss the topic at hand!?and dude rationalism and logical thinking doesn't come out of secularism! it comes out of an applied mind!! remember swami vivekananda?
if rationalism was the case, you wouldn't have opened this thread.... what was there to discuss.... everyone knows lynching was wrong... moreover if an act of certain community disrupts harmony of society, such acts need to be stopped .... Taking law in hand was also wrong.... but what you expect in UP,,, In past 2 days a dalit was killed for entering a temple and a 4 year old girl was killed by her father for not covering her head while eating.... this is the society we live in... This is jungle raj of UP...
the reason for this thread was how one is treated when he takes a counter stance and how people staying the path of rationality need to speak out and hold their ground and not be bulldozed by violence!! which is a part of the mosaic of India ,if one stream of thought is eliminated, there can be instability and every thesis needs to be countered with an anti thesis(but it has to be on the basis of rationality) remember the deafening silence of the scientific community when the pm claimed that plastic surgery and surrogacy were part of ancient India!? true UP's law and order situation is the worst!
I don't understand the logic behind giving Saudi Arabia's example while defending the restrictions on speech/food/dissent etc. I mean is that what you 'non-sickulars' are aiming for? Is that the path you want to tread? Do you wish to be a Hindu version of Saudi Arabia?
Certainly not... but If something is prohibited by law, why do people have to pester others about that ? Can't they survive without beef ? A lot of concessions are for many communities, if majority community is sensitive relative to one animal, why can't they adjust for majority ? Why proudly boast around that I eat this and that too when it is in violation of law.

I don't say that we become Saudi Arabia but then if something is written in constitution / law... obey it.
