1. Katju has freedom of expression. By saying cow is not his mother, he is not hurting sentiments of anyone. 2. Those who feel cow as mata/mother. they are free to pursue their belief and nobody can question that. 3. The reason there are many vegetarians in India is due to its geographic location. Any region that is close to equator and tropics has abundance of vegetarian sources. Those in high latitudes and deserts have to depend on meat. Thats all. Dont bring religion into food choice. Due to globalisation and people travelling all over the globe, humans have learnt to eat different foods and that is a personal choice. No one should question what one should eat. 4. We need both veg and non veg eating people to sustain food chain.
@mods close the thread because there is nothing to discuss in it. its all common sense.
thanks for your views but the last request which you made was unsolicited!! If you are done with your part !! fair enough !! keep away!
freedom of expression my friend. my suggestion was to the mod and not you. >-
ok let's leave that to the mods then!! but freedom of expression should have been exercised constructively adding to the subject matter and in not scuttling the entire discussion itself!!
What the libertarian advocate is a stateless society so that no one's freedom is hampered and everything is market based... But I can guarantee that, this society won't even exist for a day... freedom and liberty are not absolute. you can consider a cow as a mother or not is not the problem, you need to keep those ideas to yourself... do not try to instigate the public religious sentiments... only once the sentiments are instigated and emotions are outraged we see the barbaric outcomes.... cows goat bulls all are animals and so are human... we tend to think we have outsmarted everyone but in actuality we are still just a puppet in hands of nature(our primal feelings) ..
now don't take it to Fotopoulous and now you are veering towards determinism v/s possibilism which is pretty much out of context! and considering the lynching incident there was no instigation of any sort!!
Why do you think ppl react, if there was news of such thing... a human mind do not take refrence only from present event but the past evaluation of events plays a very important role... There have been many such incidents which has happened there and taking cue from it ppl reacted...
I am trying to defend the lynching... what happened shd not have happened... but taali ek taraf se nahi bajti, you need remember that too...
You know, everyone says Katju is an idiotic, deranged person. I beg to disagree. Mostly what he says is true and apt for the situation. Sure he goes overboard sometimes but it is the exception rather than the norm. It is good that he is using his stature of an ex-SC judge to provide a no-bullshit view of important events happening in the country.. :-bd
But do ask any lawyer who faced him as judge. May be brilliant but not a stable sane person. He use to take haphazard decisions and moody when he was a a judge. ) He is very opposite from his brother who is also a famous person.
Just a thing to ponder upon, can anybody stop someone from eating something which is a tradition followed for generations... Why people play politics on food habits or eating something? Will there be a civil war in India because of foodhabbit?
Atheism is so fad nowadays. I wonder how many of us will blame god for our results. Mr Katju though is extremely brave but is treading on the wrong path. Without belief, in any religion or anything, we'll soon turn machines and animals later on. Fact is Mr Katju has protection and is an established individual, it is sad to say his bravery would fuel the simmering fire.Standing behind 7 rows of security guards my views will also become highly liberal and original. A common man cannot have such views and if he does he can't be so vocal about it. In villages still the bond between man and god is still strong and not so fragile as it is cities. Today also a farmer after crop failures blames his bad deeds rather than corrupt administration/ system if you take away his faith from him do you have the resources to satiate his desires?? Are we ready to face the mass discontent after removal of religion from society? Eating beef is not as big a problem as it is being made out to be. Shops and establishments still sell meat, leather factories are still posting growth quarter after quarter. Rising non tolerance on both sides is a cause of concern. Reminds me of a saying Feminist until you get married, Communist until you get rich, And Atheist until you start dying.
but then raja ram mohan roy started something and it reached its logical conclusion! and it is people in position of influence can lead the path! So i commend katju for taking such a brave stand! just Imagine without his statement there wouldn't have been hope for the more outspoken rational lot to throw their weight due to fear of physical repression!! I do agree that religion has kept India stable ,but then this is being taken in the negative direction and in a way talibanising the society and it is then when the sentinels in their shining armour need to come out and defend!! And in no way are his comments irreligious! there are plenty of hindu sects who don't consider cow as sacred!!
What the libertarian advocate is a stateless society so that no one's freedom is hampered and everything is market based... Not true. Why is it that when someone eats beef, the anti-beef lobby shouts that cow is their mother at the top of their voice but if someone replies that they don't consider cow their mother, they're accused of hurting religious sentiments?
ALL people need to keep their religion and beliefs to themselves. If you (not directed at anyone personally) don't like people slaughtering cows, don't watch it, plain and simple.
Laws and civilization are made by humans for humans. Equating humans with animals is unsustainable, to put it mildly. To support a particular food habit or not is a personal decision and should not be construed as instigation, or else there would be no end.
Bhaiji... kutch hoga tab to response aayega... Isn't that simple... jab koi cow slaughter case hoga tabhi koi reaction hoga na... without the deed done how do yiu expect other to do anything... Katju statement is not only abt not considering cow as his mother, he is advocating beef consumption, which will certainly results in the reaction...
Wow... if i don't like murder shd i close my eyes if a murder takes place...
Laws do not give a human right to kill other animals...does it.. animals have equal right to live in this world..we humans do not own it...
With climate change, increasing population and need for more food, animal husbandry would become unsustainable in the future. That would itself result in bans on animal rearing and people would be forced to change their eating habits to adapt to that.. While this may be a sound reason to quit meat and turn vegetarian, change will only come gradually and changing food habits or customs by fiat will result in clashes. People have consumed beef since centuries, before there was religion. Religion has nothing to do with food habits.
reminded me of interstellar....people eating only corns...no animals and other crops in future.
Somebody posted on Facebook that when terror has no religion, then why is it Hindus who killed the person accused of beef eating? I could not think of a suitable reply!
