  • Do meditation. Join a meditation course (which are offered free of cost from some renowned org, eg Brahmakumaris and only 7 day course)... and it will definitely increase concentration.
I have another prob.... feeling very sleepy these days (in day time)... any solution?

  • Try sitting for 1 hour initially. Keep targets.
Example : Tell this to yourself. Challenge yourself. "I will not stand up again without reading atleast 25 pages." 25 pages are going to take more than 1 hour anyway. Just be firm and determined.
This way keep on increasing the target pages and time duration.

Also, try to gain fun from reading.
Say " Wow such a great info".
    Enjoy yourself while reading.
    Make reading a joyful process.
Try to develop interest in reading.
UPSC syllabus in itself is so diverse that we can enjoy the reading once we get going.
You will be then able to read for hours with ease. :-)
  • @sheen .. very True.. i Do the same thing whenever my morale goes down.. It Really helps me alot.

@thehulk .. Start your day with your favorite subject and make sure to connect yourself with the subject. This will help you to retain that info for a long tym.

and once you are done with your Fav. Subject, then you will gain some confidence and then this will help you to carry on with other subjects the whole day.... and then slowly slowly.. you will gain momentum for other Subjects as well....

There are some aspirants who do only 1 subject at a time and after completing that whole subject , they move on to other subject..

you have to make your own strategy....

  • If you feel sleepy, smell a good perfume. It alerts the mind.

Stretch your back, so that your spine becomes a little taut.

Stretch your arms in between. Get up, walk around the room.

Drink the juice of a gourd, indian gooseberry, with a small piece of beetroot. (Have the beetroot only if you are not a diabetic.)

    Coffee shots. Works great.

Exercise regularly, it helps maintain the sleep cycle.

This is really good. No body should sit continuously for 4-5 hours. It is bad for body and mind. Even if you sit for 1 hour, make sure that you are concentrated. one hour study with full concentration is better than 2-3 hours study with all kind of disturbances in mind. Do not torture your body. Try to make your study interesting.

Initially, i also had the same problem. After reading a book for 1 hour, i used to play some music or watch some of my favorite video clips. Soon, those songs were replaced by video lectures. Then i joined this forum to further make my study interesting by active participation. (thankfully my concentration level is high, perhaps some people do complain about this).

Please do not torture your body to sit for 4-5 hours suddenly. Enjoy the study otherwise it will backfire.
  • @vijay_45 Do share those video lectures with us too! :D

Just type the topic in Youtube, (e.g. Indian Physical Geography) you will find a series of lectures (for school students). Those are really good for basic understanding.
  • @vijay_45 True that! I used to do the same stuff earlier - Music or some videos and lately shifted to Youtube videos on relevant topics. It relaxes and is helpful at the same time!
@partho Just as Vijay, I look up for any topic that I might find interesting. Say Sea-floor spreading, Millennium Dev Goals or similar stuffs!
  • @thehulk
Prepare a basket of topics which you need to study for the day,say 10 from different areas. have a gap in between the topics. Make plausible targets which can be done away in 30 mins. It will be interesting...
  • put up a blank page in front of your study spot and fill in with daily targets through further divisions by dividing a day in sessions (morning-afternoon-evening-engineers time slot of post midnight)....try to make sure your cover whatever lettle targets you have set...STAY AWAY FROM DISTRACTIONS when you are studying and only go to them only when you are taking a break !..btw even pscyhology says that 40-50 minutes of session with a break in between is the most ideal way to retain information than spending your life on a study table....
