can anyone suggest how much a room in delhi will cost along with the general expenses (food and electricity). it would be great if someone can suggest good locations (easy availability of books). my budget is around 9k-10k inclusive of all expenses.
Mode Note : This thread is now closed. Please use the Official Thread for 2017 , 2018 and 2019 aspirants:
@Anurag_Sinha You could get a decent room in Old Rajinder Nagar with an AC in around 10k. I have several friends who do live there in under 10k. You will need to contact a broker for the same, who will charge you between 15 days to 20 days rent as brokerage fee.
It would be very difficult to find a room without using a broker's service.
@Neyawn 10k is anurag's budget for all expenses (not budget for room rent). @Anurag_Sinha try Patel nagar, give a try to new Rajender Nagar (very low chances of finding a room below 8k per month) Or you can just go to Mukherji Nagar as Shasha said, Mukherji Nagar will be the cheapest of all.
Ah, thanks for pointing that out @Jacob. In fact Shadipur /Patel Nagar would be a good area as well. I remember a good friend of mine staying in Patel Nagar last year, to keep himself away from the distractions of ORN. And he did end up fine.
You have all the classes available in Mukherjee Nagar that are there in ORN. Except Vajiram.
Very good point >- *Duniyadari* me fasne ka bahut darr hai ORN me. Not good for any aspirant [-X Infact, I lived in ORN for last june till end of mains. Now, I'll look for a room in shadipur/Patel nagar. ORN!!!! too hot for me =((
5.5-6 k in Karol Bagh. Near coaching, all facilities, away from the ORN hotspot(chai) so you will not waste time there but dirty locality, you will probably need to buy headphones.
7k+ in ORN. : Good locality, but too many distractions. YOu will most probably be found ogling in the streets. Many south indian students.
5-6k in Mukarjee nagar. Environment is directly proportional to price but overall good, will not get bored, mostly north Indian students, no vajiram,
5-6k in Shadipur. Far away, will get bored if studying alone, kinda feels cutoff.
Food: 2 times a day: avg price: 2400/month( ORN), 3000 with breakfast veg/nonveg Cheapest: 2100/month ( ORN) veg/ no breakfast South Indian: 3600/month with breakfast,
Electricity: ORN, avg. 600-700 Karol Bagh: 150-250 Shadipur: 100-200 Mukharjee nagar: NA
@GambiTTT@Neyawn and @Jacob thank you very much for your response. yes my total budget is 10k (inclusive of food and electricity). i am not gonna enroll for any coaching so any area will do which has suitable study environment.(jyada cheekh pukar na ho mohalle me). will be visiting delhi in feb end will look for a room then. i guess rajinder nagar is out of the budget. how is katwariya sarai and ber sarai. any idea about living exp there? thanks a lot again >:D<
Try out in Munirka. It will be close to Ber Sarai and most economical..though quite conjusted. I had rented a one room kitchen in Munirka for INR 4500+Electricity bill @ Rs. 7.00 per unit. The place I lived in was quite peaceful. There is a hostel too that charged Rs 5000 with food, but was on sharing basis. Brokers are in plenty. Ber Sarai might be unavailable due to IES rush in the region. Yet give it a try!
@GambiTTT I am thinking to join Sriram Ias and would take a room probably in rajinder nagar. What are the distractions people are talking about ? Else please advise appropriately regarding where to take a room considering Sriram is in Rajinder Nagar.
Naa, just the chai shop, some people go there too much like a hangout spot. If you have self control, you can avoid it. Nothing else.
Sriram is in mukharjee nagar too.
Location doesn't matter, both mukharjee nagar and rajendra nagar are good, but don't take advice from people on the street and don't make too many friends. You are not there to search for long lasting friendship. One of my friends who lives in mukharjee nagar told that he regularly advises others who come up to him. He is not preparing for this exam.
