many seniors in the past have confirmed this. Also, getting the data 5 mins earlier doesnt refute my statement. The chairman may not know who is coming next but he may surely know that whoever the first person is has scored more or less. Several examples of ppl getting 60,63 etc when they required 80 to qualify sent this feeling to me. I am not very sure abt whther the order of calling is the mechanism. But they know abt marks, I m pretty confident abt this.

Even I feel they have some idea about the marks. This is what I've heard from a teacher - That UPSC panelists have in their sheets these boxes to tick, which are - Suitable for AIS, Suitable for Group A Central Services, Suitable for Group B Central Services, Not recommended.
And how in the world they can refuse or accept somebody's candidature without knowing the mains' marks.

I agree on that bhai....but 80 needed and u get 60....a couple of eg like that I could not ignore this.....esp from boards who are considered liberal..

Candidates are allotted to different teams within U.P.S.C which then verifies candidates certificates and arrange them for P.T based on some criteria viz; roll no., name etc. I am allotted to Exam-9 team, which I came to know from the call letter. So there must be Exam-1, 2 etc. Its written for all candidates on their call letter hard copy. It is this team who then decides in which sequence candidates will go for their P.T

if you have to pick people from confidential dept. to form other teams, why call them confidential in the first place?
Its like during budget prep. "select" MoFin people go underground. I am assuming something similar must be true for UPSC, else there is no purpose of having a confidential dept.
Having spoken to a few ex-board members of UPSC, I am entirely confident that neither the members nor the Chairman have any idea about your written marks. And as others have stated, there are certain Confidential cell(s) in UPSC who alone are aware of the written marks.
