  • These questions sound fantastic, tbh. At least for a huge sci-fi fan that has mucked around with atlases for twenty odd years. I sometimes wish we only had the PI without the written exams. :D
  • Hoping for a good haul today. Keep your eyes peeled people!
  • The person might have put Interest in defense technology as a hobby. Honestly it is a mouthwatering question for a true enthusiast which is exactly my hobby. I mean i could talk about stealth for one straight hour without getting my facts wrong.
  • Any more transcripts ?
  • @rookie @sananthan guys, i have second hand info to support my view. I recently spoke with an IPS probationer whose friend told the panel that he didn't know the answer, for 8 straight factual questions and still managed to score 200+.
    If I like to play hockey (I do) and don't know about the recent changes introduced in the game, then it is a sin. But to not know what components are used by stealth technology or for that matter the positions taken by the economists in the debate should be alright.
    Bro if we are asked some factual questions like " the origins of ODI " and we cant answer that its alright.. but certainly not the Sen- Bhagwati debates. Firstly, this debate was all across the newspapers and news channels a couple of months back ( there was also a thread created in this forum regarding that), Secondly, in upsc language of "well educated youth" if we cannot answers such factual questions then it will definitely create a bad impression on the board. In the ndtv debate while I was watching one of the episodes, the anchor started by saying something like this - " the old debate between sen and bhagwati has again come to the limelight.... " - This itself shows that this topic is not something new, created a couple of months back but something much more older! So this is exactly the current affairs which we need to work on for interview.

    Regarding the stealth technology, India has it in its military. For example, some missile frigates and destroyers the Navy has are stealth. India however doesn't have a fighter aircraft which is stealth but its is currently developing in association with Russia. It is called the T- 50 it is a FGFA and it can fly in stealth mode.
    Well in today's The Hindu Jean Dreze has written article on the Gujarat Model. This article is of politico-economy nature... And we know that Jean Dreze and Amartya Sen are colleagues, have similar ideology and are in the same camp while the other camp is represented by Prof. Jagdish Bhagwati and Prof. Arvind Panagariya....

    Club 1 = Jean Dreze + Amartya Sen
    vs
    Club2 = Jagdish Bhagwati + Arvind Panagariya

    My hobby is singing. Can they ask me to sing national anthem of Russia? :-)) :))
    LOL mentioned "foreign languages" as my hobby in the DAF and now I regret that :D

    Russian anthem is the best imo! I wish India had something like that :)

    @Android lol sorry but the Indian national anthem is the best one there is [-(
    Forenoon session candidates must be almost done by now! :D
  • prof.jagdish bhagwati of the "spaghetti bowl effect" fame.the guy argues in the favour of FTA's and was vocal about criticizing the developing countries for not accepting the same.if he has his way he would turn the world into a laissez-faire.of course,every economic 'ism' has it's fair share of pros and cons and we got to understand that he's a gujarati so a devout capitalist whereas amartya sen is a bengali and has leanings towards a socialist approach,not that i'm being a regionalist here or castigating someone.also when it comes to the developmental model it's quite evident that gujarat lacks in socio-economic paramaters(even the RBI agrees) as against only economic parameters.that was the reason we came up with HDI in the first place again conceptualised by a person from a developing country(mahbub ul haq with prof.sen) whereas any developed world economist wouldn't have even dared about it.economy has evolved from 'development' to 'human development' and subsequently to 'sustainable development'.so the long and short of it is there isn't any necessary "invisible arm"that "trickles-down"the development without any govt and had it been existing we would have seen the efforts by now.india is a classic example where planned economy was started with "growth having a trickle down approach" and yet there is humongous poverty.reforms with a "human face" have taken place albeit with a gloomy one and that with a socialist govt.in power for many years.so how would market mechanism work in such situations.capitalism can't have it's way in developing economics.so my vote for amartya sen.sorry for this long boring crap!!!!
