Chairman: Can centre interfere in the law & order matters of state? Does India manufacture its own civilian aircrafts or does it procure them from abroad? Which companies make civilian aircrafts and who owns them? If you are standing on a hill and you have to find the depth of the valley, how will you do it without using any equipment? What qualities does one learn from playing cricket? What are the qualities of a good leader?
Member 1: What is global warming? What is greenhouse effect? What is ozone layer depletion? (asked it all at once) If a 3-phase motor receives current in only 2 phases, what will happen to it? What is asynchronous motor? What are the advantages of AC over DC?
Member 2: What is the difference between a feature film and a commercial film? What is the difference between commercial cinema and art cinema? What is the unofficial name of Central Board for Film Certification? What ratings does it provide to the movies and what does it mean?
Member 3: On what criteria does BEE award ratings for electrical appliances? If I have to buy a refrigerator, would a buy a 3 star rating one or a 4 start rating one and why? What do you learn from travelling? What is MSP? Which ministry announces it? What is the full form of CACP?
Member 4: What is the ultimate aim of life? What is your ultimate aim of life? Why do we live? Why do you live?
Chairman: OK that's it. Thank You!
PS:- Optional is philosophy. Nowhere in the form had I mentioned that I like watching films or whatever. Questions seemed incoherent and no relation between the previous question and the next, except at some places. No follow up questions. The topics on which the questions were asked were simple and they didn't ask any question to seek my opinion on any issue. I'm kind of disappointed as I feel that the Board was disinterested in asking interesting questions. Getting this feeling ki bahaut mehnat ke baad team mein selection hua aur phir final mein khelne hi nahin diya gaya! Anyways, duration was for about 25 minutes. Thanks.
Didn't the board ask the 2 phase motor question on the first day? This becomes an advantage for us with interviews at later dates, if they are going to repeat questions. I don't think that's fair :-\
Does that guy have motor-phobia? Any idea why did the 4th member pretended to ask 4 ques while in actual there were only 2?

The question is what happens to a bloody 3 phase motor if only 2 phases are applied !?
Ok now after some research, I have found out 1. The motor runs at lesser rated speed than its original design but all the while it will be damaging its windings 2. It will dissipate huge heat and vibrate more than originally designed for 3. If there is no proper protection of an overload relay, the motor may explode! [ @-) ] 4. the motor will deliver an unbalanced load meanwhile the other 2 phases will ruin the windings

Thank you for writing "The idiot's guide to motors and other scary things" :P
I am an EC engineer. I remember that we were not taught about motors in our syllabus. Would be better if they asked about diodes, circuits, transistors, amplifiers, satellite communications, etc atleast!
Any way, if I don't remember I am going to say I don't know...I have come here because I am a mediocre engineer, but a high-potential civil servant

(CM points to M1 to take over)
M1: 1) India and Pakistan have a very troubled relationship. What are the reasons you think for this? 2) So what is the whole issue about Jammu and Kashmir? Can you elaborate? 3) And what could be Pakistan’s interest in J&K? 4) Neha, you have opted for Sociology. Tell me what do we study in the discipline as such? 5) Very good. Can you think of any prominent Indian sociologists? 6) Can you think of some predominant theory of M.N.Srinivas? 7) Can you explain. 8) Do you think the concept of Sankritization holds much importance in the contemporary world
M2: 1) What is Buddhist view on God? 2) So you are from Kanpur, it was once a very famous city but now it has its set of problems. What are your views on this? 3) So if you are made the administrator of Kanpur, what will you do to revive the city? 4) Neha, you have taken sociology and you have been a technical person otherwise. Man’s life is increasingly becoming privatised, what is the role of technology in it, the access to all sort of information etc.? 5) What I meant was the effect on children with access to information of all types? 6) So, how will you monitor that? Are there any laws around the same? CM: Any other laws? (Board member M3 takes over. He had a very feeble voice so had to ask him to repeat the question sometime)
M3: 1) So you do a lot of Trekking? 2) What are the things required for a long distance trekking. 3) Continuing with India Pakistan, there is a constant tussle between the two and each other draws from the other’s strength. M4: 1) You have written ‘pursuing Buddhist Philosophy’, how do you pursue? 2) Have you visited Ladakh, may be that would be a nice trek. 3) So you mentioned about the education industry in Kanpur? Is it right to say that education is becoming like an industry? I mean the coaching centres, is it a fair thing. 4) Who is the ‘us’? And what type of revenue? 5) So, do you support the coaching institutions? 6) What would you do strengthen government education? 7) Are there any such assessments already happening? 8) You have heard of the poverty line, have you heard of something called the empowerment line? 9) Let’s say I were to create an imaginary empowerment line, what do you think would be its parameters? 10) If the number of people below poverty line is 200 million then how many do you think will be below empowerment line? 11) What do you think we need to empower people – a universal health care or Right to Food? (Chairman takes over)
CM: 1) Neha, some people are born great, some people achieve greatness and some people have greatness thrust on them. What do you understand by this? 2) (looking at my email id – neha.born2win...) What does born2win mean?
