I said the panel should trust me because I am taking a hit on my compensation(almost 1/15th) and the fact that my life will not be easy and my last post might be JS ! I have given much thought, discussion with family and friends and it's not a haste decision !

Had my interview today was asked a lot of random questions and unusual questions I answered the questions which I was sure nd politely said no which I didn't know :-/ hoping for ok marks board was cordial cm was smiling and also was dowsing nd one member had no expression n it lasted upto 17mins by da way how is AP singh board in awarding marks?
This guy I know was interviewed by the same board two consecutive years. In 2011, he got some 150 and in 2012, 210. He told me there was absolutely no change in the way he interacted with the panel, nor did the questions change much (solely based on daf both times). This made me wonder. If it really is a personality test, how much can a person change in an year without himself knowing it and the board realizing it?
And a cousin of mine, told me his interview went very well. The board was very impressed with his academic credentials (first time cleared CA with a single digit rank) and one of the members even told him the same in so many words. He got 180 :-|

Join the club they asked me questions totally unrelated to my daf. One of the members was like "you don't really have many achievements listed in your daf. How can I ask you anything?" I just smiled and sat there waiting. The board's reactions were unfathomable. I came out thinking I will be back next year
@mango_dolly I think the board was questioning your change of jobs merely because they wanted to confirm your commitment to the civil services as a career choice.
I am in a position somewhat like yours and was cross-questioned quite a bit on why I chose the civil services. In one of my mock interviews, the interviewer (who was an ex-bureaucrat) asked me, "I think 'people like you' will treat the civil services as an adventure trip, try it for a few years, write a book, and then move on to something else. I don't expect you to survive for long in these services." Although my actual interview board wasn't that explicit, I could sense some concern and I had to work hard to convince them.
Don't worry too much about it. If studying for and giving this exam while working abroad in a well-paying position doesn't indicate your seriousness, I don't know what will! In hindsight, I agree with @Ging7 that you shouldn't have pulled this card yourself during the interview (because, humility and all that ), but don't lose sleep over this. How did your other questions go?

My Background: Education: MBBS grad Work Experience: 15 months temoprary job as Junior Resident in Basaveshwara Medical College Hospital, Chitradurga. Board.: D K Deewan (Retd Vice Admiral)
As I stepped in, I wished two female members first and then others. They talked something and laughed which i did not understand. Chairman (CH): 1. Is your name Nikhil. So you are a Doctor. How many months of rural service have you done as a doctor?Tell me what can be done to get doctors go to the rural areas.
2. Tell me four reasons why health status in our country is so bad.
3. What can be done to improve it? 4. What economic reforms are yet to be done? 5. What is GST? 6. Why do we need GST? 7. What is the problem we are facing to implement GST? 8. What is this Crimean issue? 9. Why EU and Russia obsessed with Crimea? 10. Importance of Black sea. 11. Draw the map of Black sea.
Member 1: 12. What are the health issues we are facing related to nutrition? 13. Difference between undernourishment and overnourishment. 14. How do we measure undernourishment in ICDS program? 15. What are the reasons for undernourishment? 16. Why have the policies failed largely?
Member 2: 17. So Nikhil you talked about Unemployment (which I never did). Tell me some indices on Unemployment. 18. What other tax related issue is there under discussion and not yet implemented? 19. What exactly is DTC, what is the core objective? 20. What is the problem with the present Income Tax Act? When was it passed? 21. You talked about foreign investments. What are the two ways for foreign investments to enter India? 22. What are the differences between FDI and FII? 23. Which one do you favour and why?
Member 3: 24. Why there is increasing incidences of cancer? 25. Which radiations can cause cancer? 26. How lifestyle can be a cause of cancer? 27. How do you treat cancer? 28. Is cancer curable? Which cancers are curable? 29. What are the different modalities of cancer treatment? 30. Name few anti cancer drugs? 31. Which is the biggest pharma company in India?
Member 4: 32. Is polio eliminated from India? 33. How do you say so? 34. How did we do that? 35. Who all are factors responsible for eliminating polio? 35. How as an administrator can you do the same in eliminating other diseases?
Chairman again: 36. Name few communist countries in the world today. 37. Is China a communist country? 38. Where is Cuba? Its Capital? 39. What is the relation between USA and Cuba? 40. Do you know about Cuban crisis? 41. When did it happen? 42. What happened there and how did it get resolved? 43. What is the defense expenditure of India? 44. Your interview is over, you may go now.
At the end of the interview, I felt I missed some important points, could have answered better. In the areas which I was not comfortable, I told them little bit of what I know and I told them I wasnt sure, so they avoided further questions on that. Whichever questions I answered, I answered positively. Fingers crossed.
