well i have often reiterated the fact that defense is not conducive for eng medium students.. its not .... target is not to get avg marks but good marks to cover up for hindi paper and fair and just interviews.. not only selection + good rank.. + in last few years it was downscaled as well. nowhere you gonna get syllabus wise topic wise material in english...get that thing very clear
Bro go through previous yrs. Pick up adhikari. Barring 1-2 topics everything is there. Moreover question paper pattern has done away with compulsory questions. And one more thing....upscaling hoti h. Target pe marksheet dekhi thi bohot logon ki. Aap check kar lo
yaar i have already given mains with defense and found its favourable for hindi medium guys only... i dunno which 1-2 qs you are talking about but still 1-2 qs make a lot of difference esp for eng medium students who are already at a disadvantage in hindi compulsory paper.... so i would suggest to go with an optional whose material is available in english otherwise chances of under performing would be there... Dont fall in the trap of coachings who are saying they will make you prepare defense in 21 days... that does not happen... remember you people have to maximize your score in optionals and not just 'Chalta hai' marks... even if you are selected for the post of Naib Tehsildar(its posts are plenty this time swelling overall posts to 630) majority of you would not join it.... if mains happens in august, you can prepare a proper optional in june and go well prepared.. rest is for you people to believe... and yes ... you wont find toppers (except may be 1 or 2) in SDM/DSP with Defense studies and that too with English medium.. views are personal...

@player10 agree with you sir...but for students like me whose main focus is upsc can't afford two big subjects... nowadays craze of defense studies is declining in uppsc aspirants...this time trying to make own materiasl in English So there is need of guidance of learned people like you... we can collectively make changes...plz keep motivating us... although your views are personal but holds depth
my strategy for prepration of defence study sudhanshu mishra notes for paper 1 ,chokolingam notes for international relations , national security , insurgency , and important concepts like deterrence , disarmament, arms control ,from sudhanshu sir notes , and for current go for hindu news paper
