Don't worry about big community, guys.. relax.. there are people like me too (with PSIR) who gate crashed into mains by somehow clearing prelims.. so I will once again play the role I used to play in MBA times - i.e. increase the toppers' CPGA by bringing the class average low with my poor marks..
How did u guys write this question from Shubhra Mam test.. 1) consequences of defining sovereignty from feminist point of view.
Feminist basically understand politics in terms of gender.gender refers to social differences between male and female.certain qualities such power, reason, responsibility etc associated with male, whlie their opposite qualities such weakness, irrationality, and irresponsiblity are soociated with female.since sovereignty belong to the sphere of power therefore feminist view sovereignty as well as state affairs as man's domain.they argue that women have been deprived of state power so that men could exercise their dominance over women.radical feminist call for over turning this relationship of male dominance of female using state power.simone de bouvouir held that men maintained their hold over society by rpogating myths like'anatomy is destiny'.she held derivative, deprived status of women is because of male dominance and therefore she call upon all the women to take their destiny in their own hand in order to change gender relations.kate milliet maintained that male dominance over female is maintained in 2 ways through control over economic power and through control over, therefore she calls upon all the women to change gender relations in order to end the structure of dominance.review @thor,@gramskii@akshayray9@modernchanakya.
what is sovereignty? broadly four components: -legal i.e. recognition from other states -interdependence sovereignty i.e. recognition of state as the controller of intra border mvmt, relations -westphalian sovereignty i.e. non interference in internal matters. -domestic sovereignty i.e. state having the monopoly over instruments of coercion(hobbesian)
is it organised hypocrisy? 1.while considering organised hypocrisy the westphalian and legal sovereignty is questioned. (a).westphalian i.e. usa attacking iraq post 9/11 and (b).legal for example gibralter uses sovereignty against spain and britain, also vatican used it against irish commission which wanted to investigate the child abuse in church .
2.Globalisation attacks the interdepence sovereignty .Supranational institutions,MNC's,TMC's etc.
3.Now karma nebulsi have said that sovereignty belongs to the people, whether the state is dictatorial or democratic doesn't matter. But such conception can be limited in scope.such conception of sovereignty maybe a normative one i.e. what sovereignty ought to be and not what sovereignty is.
4.post 9/11 attacks reactions of USA have shown that sovereignty is not equal as contemplated by UN charter. But it is highly unequal in nature.Implies Unequal status of states.
It is used by them who gets benefits by using them and is opposed by them who does not want to bear the loss. Therefore it is an organised hypocrisy.
Sovereignty is viewed differentially by different scholars in international politics.for realist and neo realist sovereignty is the key concept for organising international relation.they focus on the existence of anarchy and the implication it may have over state behaviour.liberal on the other hand have different view regarding soveriegnty.interdependence scholars hold that though sovereignty is the key principle of ir,but still even in the context of international anarchy war b/w states may not be possible because they are interdependent on each through trade and economic relations.institutional liberals on the other hand believe that the peace and prosperity In state relations could be ensured if a higher institutional body could be established to regulate state affairs.thus intitutional liberals seek to undermine state sovereignty by establishing a higher bordy which will regulate state behaviour.world system such as wallestein holds that state sovereignty is mainly a means to transfer wealth from peripheral and semi peripheral state to the core states.fuctionalist on the other hand like david mittany hold that there is growing trend towards regionalism in international affairs.they argue that functional more equipped in delivering goods and services than state institutions which is responsable for growing regional integration of states in international system.thus one can conclude by saying that sovereignty is a contested topic in the fraternity of ir scholars.@thor,@gramskii,@all.
@hummingbird ^^ is NOT using the word organised hypocrisy your strategy? inadvertant i guess.
sovereignty is a contested concpet. But dude isn't it organised hypocrisy? "why is it organised? why is it hypocrisy?" this is how i interpreted the question. Its very great that u applied all possible schools
Defining sovereignty from feminist perspective I think in your answer 2 points should be added 1. Sovereignty differentiate domestic politics and international politics but feminist wants to emphasis on domestic too. 2. The other point arises sovereignty and security. The main emphasis of IR theories sovereignty to safeguard the territory and counter view of feminist. We may also include how sovereignty nation converted to cultural term motherland etc.
