Please guide in changing optional pub ad v/s physics

edited April 2015 in Miscellaneous
It was my 4th attempt.... pub ad ke karan 2 bar pahle fail ho chuka hun.... this time I (most probably) passed pre as jat-obc candidate. So i dont know if the culprit is pub ad again or it is revised pre list which ousted me from the competetion.
But as marks will come only after july, and in second case UPSC even may decide not to disclose marks,.... I am in dilemma to change optional or not.

I took Physics coaching from dias in 2011-12.... but i coud not pass prelims so i did not practice it much. Uske bad ek optional ho gaya to I left Physics and retained pub ad. Now i m confused if i should switch back to physics or not. Forms will be filled in may-june, and we need to choose optional by then.
I can improve pub ad easily with much lesser effort then physics. Also i am in job, and sometimes work load increases a lot, which may make physics a tough choice. But problem with pub ad is that even if u try harder, you can not be sure of scoring due to subjectivity and that out of syllabus questions (no surety if same will be repeated).
Physics if done properly will provide atleast 200 that is for sure. But I am not sure that with the time which is left now, if i could finish physics properly.
But taking physics is a risk if not handled properly.

Someone from physics background please guide me.

  • I m a Physics grduate and consciously avoided it coz it can either fetch u very good marks, with hard labour nd right guidance, or drag u to d lowest with any sign of shoddiness in preparation. On the other hand, socio can conaistently fetch u average marks, thoughd engine of ur success must be GS + essay,

    @mohrovicic
You had socio. I cant take socio now. I have only two options, Physics (as i have interest in it and studied once) and pub ad (I am good enough in it now - though not comparable to some of the best guys on forum)
  • @cestrum_nocturnum could u please help.....
  • @WWG_Reloaded

Science optionals haven't done too well this time. If you can have a correct attempt of 450+, then you must go for it. Till last year, one could have attempted 400 correctly and scored 220. This year, it does not seem to be the case.
    Would answer any further queries.

@cestrum_nocturnum bro how much time will it take if I start today. Considering I am in job 6 days * 10 hours per day.
I can study 4-5 hours per day at home..... will it be sufficient. I dont give GS much time now, and that i can manage using soft copies at office.

One more question, I heard that mostly the same questions are repeated in course of 3-4 years. Is it so ?
If its so why is it hard to attempt 400 marks correctly ?

PS: Last time I almost finished thermo and optics. Rest I will have to start anew...
