Guys, i plan to shift to chennai in april first week for IAS preprtn. I am non tamiliam. Kindly suggest me an ideal location for accomodation. And how to go about it ? Also, kindly suggest me a good coaching fr brushing up general studies ? thanks in advance.
Try to find accomodation in & around anna nagar. preferably anna nagar east. as far as coaching is concerned, no coaching institute is great. Don't ever join without having proper discussion here or with any known memeber. Every renowned institute like shankar IAS, ganesh IAS, smart leaders, TIME etc are only running on their past glory. Nothing is up to UPSC standard. Join as of now, initially in manidha neyam.Try to have an idea of it. Manidha neyam or the coaching for new batches will start after the prelims 2015 which is in august. So you need to wait till september. maindha neyam is a free non- profit coaching centre. Start your preparation from there. From thereon, we can discuss things later, as time is in your side. Don't ever get caried away by any institute's success propaganda. Don't ever form any opinion without talking to any immediate past (yeah only that) or current students of the coaching institutes.. Do ask if u have any other query. thanks..

If you are not a tamilian why are you going to chennai .. better choose hyderabad if you want to stay in south India and go to delhi if you have no problem..
@ullu_prasad If u r in chennai, contact suuccess book house. You will find some guys posting rooms available for rent in their notice board. their contacts are - 04442612215. mobile - 9884912274/75. Chennai climate may be a bit sore, but the state of the art & world class libraries, Book shops, students circle in eating joints & in the parks are much better than in hyderabad. make use of those & try to gain better exposure. Chennai is definitely second best to delhi for UPSC preparations.
@lullu_prasad what @naresh2885 told is what I would also suggest. Before joining any coaching centre jjust join manidhaneyam and form a network and go further from there. You may also join a PG/hostel temporarily till you find a nice room and good circle to settle down. There are also hostels available exclusively for aspirants. There is one such hostel in anna nagar east. Forgot the name. I would suggest the hostel as it is located at the right place and facilities designed specially for aspirants. And ya chennai's weather will be bit harsh. If you are too concerned about it you may want to 'try' the weather before settling down. But otherwise chennai is one of the best places for civils prep and for other things as well. I have never been to Delhi , except for interview, and chennai has been enough for me as far as prep is concerned.
