edited March 2015 in Essay
Our development strategy has been proposed in terms of ' faster', 'more inclusive' and ' sustainable' growth. Do the three components go together well? How?

  • Subjective questions can only be answered by connecting various subjective aspects of different subjects. So ur question is about motto of 12 th year plan whether it can be achieved or not “ faster yet more inclusive and sustainable” ... so let me connect these 3 key word , first one is faster- means large scale employment creation, industrialization , manufacturing , bulky wealth generation (capitalism) etc... now we have to add some inclusiveness in this... our country – most people r semi skilled and unskilled , m talking about masses not people like u n me.. v have internet n eligible enough to do anything!... those semi and unskilled labour can be channelized into manufacturing and industry sector --- leads to earning --- wealth distribution among masses--- they ll educate their child and all—status of living enhanced etc like HDI--- final product GDP increased... sustainable—by regulatory measures, social and economic justice, equality... by which capitalist (owners) of that large industry cant exploit labour and environment... hogya na SABKA SAATH SABKA VIKAAS! Now u may connect and understand this with other aspect and also can explore prospects, whn u ll be a civil servant!
  • Do they go together? => no
    How? => doesnt emerge

    Can they go together?=> yes
    How? => by following 11th & 12th FYP
  • yes, but difficult. The 12th Plan says that ‘[it] must be guided by a vision of India moving forward in a way that would ensure a broad-based improvement in living standards of all sections of the people through a growth process which is faster than in the past, more inclusive and also more environmentally sustainable’.

    Ex-minister Jairam Ramesh once said: "Be ready for trade-offs between growth and environment." Although that is what is happening in India, it is possible to grow while taking care of the environment as has been demonstrated by several European nations.
  • faster growth without inclusiveness and sustainability will be useless. the increasing inequality will led to various other problems (like naxalism)
    we need to focus on our human resources to make it inclusive and sustainable. there is need to focus on MSME and other employment generating sectors to make it inclusive. Increasing use of renewable energy will be sustainable. empowering people by education and skill development will increase their capabilities and enable them to participate in development.
    sabka saath and sabka vikas only will be sustainable and will ultimately lead to faster growth.
  • theoretically - Yes
    empirically - No

    Kuznets in his empirical results found that whenever economic growth happens, the gap between lowest section and uppermost section of society widens .... There's always a time lag when the benefits of growth reaches to lowest segment of society... so it is easy to say 'sabka vikas'.. but practical results from majority of the economies show that initially Vikas always goes to upper segment of the society..... this is graphically represented by inverted U analysis ...
  • In one sense its somewhat wrong to say Economic growth or faster economic growth is against more inclusiveness. the problem variables here among growth, inclusiveness and sustainability are growth versus sustainability or economic development versus environmental sustainability.

    Leaving aside the jobless growth problem, Non-inclusiveness & Inequality from growth implies when you cut the cake some people are getting big pieces and many are getting small pieces. Rather changing the way we cut the cake(which is very very tough), what many economies do is to make the cake bigger by higher economic growth. This way the poor will get bigger pieces of the cake. So faster growth helps a country having problems of inclusiveness or inequality.

    Of course, its cruel to say we cannot change the way the cake is cut but we follow a mixed or predominantly capitalist system and the rich investors/capitalists need to be encouraged by higher returns to the money they have invested.
