can village be regarded as an autonomous entity?(250 words)

Comments

  • Well it is already regarded as an autonomous entity. The 73rd constitutional amendment has already provided for devolution of powers upto village level. Gram sabha, gram panchayat etc are already established. The aim being problems of village or rural level are better understood and solved by the local people than state or national government.
  • @abhim65 Are you an IGNOU B.A. student? This question is there in assignment for ESO 12. I am novice in sociology but I am planning to get a major in it.
  • @abhim65, pre-independence scholars considered that indian villager are 'autonomous entity'. Metcalfe had called it 'little republic', post independence community development programme was launched with same image keeping in mind. But village studies conducted by sociologist like m.n. srinivas, s.c. dube, andre beteille showed that indian villages are not autonomous or isolated entity but they are connected to neighbouring villages through kinship system and jajmani system. Post-independence change in 'mode of agrarian production' has interlinked to national & international forum (capitalist agrarian mode of production is present trend).
