My take on this topic. Please do not join any class for current affairs. Do you really need someone to push you to read the newspaper. You can make your own notes from a day's paper in hardly 1.5-2 hrs, whereas a class would want you to spend 3 hrs everyday. Add to it the nonsense chitchat with friends (not always though). So you end up spending nearly 4 hrs on something which you can achieve in half the time.
As far as aspire is concerned, I know a friend who couldnt clear the prelims mainly bcoz of his cheap tactics. He will take oral tests, make you mugg up the year book. Upsc knows that superwell and no paper will now ever be helpful to those focussed on rote learning. You need application of mind which no coaching can help you do. Coachings now seem to be useless for mains as well. So please dont get lured by their advertisements. Current affairs must be the last thing one must take coaching for. Plenty of online material is there and that enables you to do a smarter preparation.
My credentials to answer this question - qualified prelims thrice (2012(just fresh after college and own prep on CA),2013,2014) and mains last year with pubad. A smart preparation in current affairs is a bonus for optionals like pubad.
