Hi guys.. i was doing physical anthropology. Completed 9.1, 9.2 . Doing 9.3 . I am referring to PNath now. Is there any other lucid book apart from pnath.. book and not notes of xyz sir.. Am preparing for 2015. Wanted to complete my optional before starting with gs.. Also eager to hear from seniors who r taking mains this time.. btw all the best to u guys
Hi Robin. I got P Nath and the book is printed on really crappy paper. But the other three I four I got are fantastic. Ive been glancing at them from time to time, but I need to buckle down and start studying for anthro as well. I started Tribal India yesterday and it seems to be a good read so far.
Any strategies for getting around the monumental P Nath. In the introduction he says that he used other sources as reference and his sons helped him write the book but it seems that he lifted chunks of it from other sources. Especially for the organic source of life section before the control-experiments that showed protein formation. Ring a bell (question mark, my question mark key is broken...damn) Anyway let me know Robin
@Debula bhai i hv done p nath only unit on primate is remaining....i would suggest u to do keep copy of syllabus with u while doing pnath there is extra portions given which r unneccesary ....u hv to be very very smart while studing it nd have to make refined notes.........since u r starting would suggest u to do social anthro before cause its gonna be the most time consuming since its conceptual......physical anthro can be done easily so keep t for last.....concentrate on theories nd concepts the core of anthro that gonna bring intrest in the subject.......it worked for me u can try if u like
@kaaliyo b m das not exhaustive enough bhai ........lots of stuff is not in it for example senesence nd ageing theories,physique nd somatotype nd many more......better go with das

@Debula i think the best way to do PNath , as @black_swan24 has suggested, is to read it topic wise according to syllabus. Ps: i too was put off by the paper quality and even found loads of language errors, but we dont have much choice . Most topics are available in the book. But just 'available' , i highly doubt the quality of the text. Hence the thread )
@black_swan24 have u done genetic counselling, gene mapping etc? From where? Pnath has a 4page weird consolidation
@RobinS i think when u will be given to write about genetic counselling u have to throw in gene therapy that is the core fodder u gonaa write about in this topic genetic counselling suggests genetic therapy nd genetic therapy has 3 elements gene replacement gene targetting nd gene formation......i thing that will be sufficient.......some of the topics in genetic anthro are interconnected so to make 150-200 word u have to remember the interconnection...that is the way i have made starategy to tackle some topics that sound trivial suits me i guess
@black_swan24 thanks for the response blackswan. What copy of the syllabus would you suggest. I found loads of copies online but anyone in particular youre referring to. The theory part isnt that bad actually. Better than I expected it to be. Makhan Jha's introduction to anthropological thought is quite a good read, although its tedious in some parts
@debula official syllabus is available in lot of websites u cn check them out ...m not refering to any particular syllabus all r same....thing about makhan jha anthropological thought is that u cannot make notes out of it and some parts can be avoided in all its chapter, when reading theory- concept of theory ,people associated with theory nd there contribution, criticism of theory,nd accomplishment of theory should be covered make notes in that way for theory use internet for further information which u cant find in jha
