[Mission CSP 2015] How to strategise for CSAT (Paper 2)?

Really confused about d modus-operandi for a good score in csat paper 2. This was my first attempt and i could'nt qualify 4 mains ( 5-10 marks short of cut-off) due 2 a poor show in csat paper 2. The problem lied in d fact dat i was accustomed 2 d old pattern of questions as in 2011 / 12/ 13 and could not adjust 2 d new twist in d paper .Being a social science student , what would be d right approach 2 nail 2015 csat ?? I would be really obliged if senior aspirants provide some reliable techniques ........

One and only strategy that works for CSAT is 'PRACTICE'.

For as of now,you must have known your weak points as you have appeared for CSP 2014. So the best plan for CSAT i can suggest:

1. Attempt 2011,2012,2013,2014 CSAT papers again.Analyse your weak and strong points;
2.Clear your basics in-Maths ,Reasoning etc ;
3.Practice some RCs daily;
4.As of now,try to attempt a CSAT mock paper every week in disciplined manner within 2 hours.
5.Learn to calculate fast mentally without pen and paper .

If you would honestly do the above ,then with time you will see the improvement.

This was precisely my strategy in 2014 but d paper was a bit inclined towards banking exams . How 2 go about it ?

Hey, we all know that ladder of success in CSP very much depends on the CSAT score and believe me there must not be any excuse not to achieve this.

Be honest to yourself.If you would have done your homework properly ,then you could have attempt all 74 questions.This year's CSAT was not tough,but just a bit lengthy and unexpected googlies were there.That's it.

Anyways,its not the time to find out excuses.Just do it again. Analyse your approach towards the paper again.May be ,you should change the books or material you use.

My two cents :

1. Prepare GS thoroughly. 130-140 is achievable if you cover all the topics. Trust me it's not that difficult. A good GS score will do immense good to your confidence ( I consider it very important for a good paper 2 performance).
2. Of course keep practising for paper-2. There is no substitute.

Absolutely true,I depended heavily on csat and paid the price since I was expecting 2013 like papers.Got 75ish in GS and was expecting 140 min in csat but due to wobbly nature of RCs which can go either ways its better to ace Reasoning+maths+GS static parts especially.This is the reason why someone with 90+120 has cleared wheras ppl like Me expecting 70+140 haven't since u can bank on gs answers whereas NO keys can predict RCs

The paper 2 is really easier than paper 1, but many students have started giving more importance to paper 2.. I think there has to be a balance between both the papers.. Divide your time in 3:1 ration for paper 1 and paper 2. If you are devoting 3 hrs for paper 1 then don't give more than 1 hour for paper 2.... Remember paper 2 can help you clear prelims.. but if you GS is weak you will pay the cost in mains.... There is no reason why one can not attempt 55-60 question with around 90% accuracy from paper 1 if we cover the basic books properly..like NCERT, Laxmikanth, ramesh singh,etc...

if you are scoring 100+ in paper 1 there is no way one can not qualify prelims... A person with only strong GS can clear mains...

Few things that have possibly helped me this year in both papers:

1. Not wasting time on any question that I wasn't able to solve at one go. If you meet your match, move on.

2. Not guessing any question unless I was relatively sure. Leaving a few questions (I left 6-7) is better than getting them wrong. But don't leave too many (depends on the difficulty). Hard questions often come in groups to coerce you into answering. Resist temptation and fear.

3. Never trusting your 'gut feeling.' It's generally wrong.

I think CSAT paper is mainly time constrained. One can solve most of the questions irrespective of time, but in a given time you have to solve most questions that can be achieved only through practice. As some of our friend rightly mentioned CSAT helps you to clear prelims but ultimately GS will help you to sail through mains. The ratios doesn't matter once you are familiar with the topics. Start preparing sincerely and practice till you get grip over the topics. Once you achieve this, time doesn't really matters. You can able to excel paper 2 in the given time and 140-150 is pretty possible if you are in continuous touch with topics for a while. Once you are good with the topics start giving mock tests as many as possible. You can find lot of practice tests and reputed coaching institutes test series with a little effort on internet. In my case gut feeling is almost always right. Rational analysis usually screws me :-(
