[Econmics Newspaper] ET or BS or BL or Mint?

edited May 2014 in Miscellaneous
Presently I am reading three newspapers, IE, TH and ET. But I am not finding ET to be much relevnant to UPSC needs and Hence I am thinking of switching to some to some other newspaper. What other people are reading. A critical examination of various options would be apppreciated.

TIA :)

I am thinking of reading HBL's opinion page daily. Browsed through the section online and found it good. IE will be my primary newspaper.
  • Live Mint is a marvellous newspaper, i dont know how many candidates must have been reading it for civils, but , this is one of the newspaper i like the most, their news coverage , their opinions on the economic issues are just excellent ...........there is no doubt in it..
  • mint is an underrated newspaper. It simplifies all aspects wonderfully. I got it for years before i jumped into the CSE madness. I would recommend mint over et anyday. disclaimer: i am biased , i just hate et

Though if you want, just follow their twitter handle - they have 2 . one is mint and other is mint opinion. follow the 2nd one. you'll have to read max 2 articles per day relevant to the civil services
  • @geeta and @devendra_singh I am asking from UPSC point of view... Is mint good for UPSC purpose also?

    Anyone reading Business Standard?
  • @Blitzkrieg : Acc to me, in terms of depth of content (i speak only about op/ed/comment), BS is better than the other 3. BL is good for beginners who want to acquaint themselves with eco issues. I've not read ET much as don't find it very relevant. I followed Mint for some time and liked it a lot but after I started following insights, I found BS's depth and relevance more than Mint.
But I think if you have an eye for picking up relevant articles then bookmark them all and read 1-2 most relevent articles from each, but make sure you avoid overlap.
    Regards.
  • Epw is the best for upsc mains questions. For pt any newspaper will do.
  • @geeta and @devendra_singh agreed, mint is an underrated newspaper not only from upsc point of view but for general daily readers
its editorials are balanced and they take facts for facts without any left or right wing bias
their columnists come from all sorts of ideological persuasion....their journos like tamal, asit ranjan are qualified enough to write well analysed perspective on new govt. reports and happenings

in the past week there has been a regular column drawn up from a new upcoming book

p.s : I too hate the Lore Ambani sponsored et and toi!!!
  • *Lord Ambani
  • mint is brilliant. not that expensive either. skip sat and sunday version. nothing imp comes in that.

BSis also a very good option. its opinion section is absolutely brilliant. no other newspaper explains the concept in such a layman language as BS does.

BL is not that good. left biased. most of the edit section favors left mechanism over capitalistic ones. zero focus on non eco issues. but its economy section is good. overall skip this one. go for mint or bs.
