@amrutha- agree with everything you said. Btw what board did u have last time n what did they give you? And what board this time?
This was my first interview. I didn't clear mains last time. I got 695 and that is one other thing I hate about UPSC. I was preparing for prelims seriously and one week before the exam, I get to know I failed because of 5 marks. 5 marks!! that's not even 1 mark per paper :P
I was interviewed by AP Singh's board. And it was one of the most random interviews ever. They asked me about electromagnetic radiation, IGNOU, classical music. I have an M.Sc in animal biotechnology and my optional was Zoology. Haha
I have no idea. I didn't even know there was a guy named A P Singh who was taking interviews till I was allotted to his board. One of my group members told me he was CBI director and I went into panic mode because I had given 0 preference to IPS.
After talking to few people, I understood that Kilemsungla and Chattar Singh give marks within a good range to everyone (no corroborative evidence for this, since they are first timers) and Rajni Razdan and Alka Sirohi give really high marks if the candidate is impressive. And I can't really trust these insights because I only spoke to others during medical and the interviewers are generally inclined to be mild towards women candidates and award them better marks.
scheduled interrviews would end on next thursday so only 7 days left after which some of the idle one's like me would get some work: refreshing upsc website and calling farid sir

after seeing so many unsatisfied candidates i think now UPSC should seriously think about the present scheme of personality test where most of the people are not getting a chance to showcase their personality and comes out with a feeling like they have been ditched.
What we can do on our part is that in suggestion column we can write something to change this pattern.like i wrote to introduce group discussion and the only purpose was so that the p.t. marks get distributed and each candidate has two chances to show their capability.

What do u say guys on this suggestion? :-?
In that column, I suggested multiple P.T by atleast 2-3 board members and average out the marks, Real case base questions, which the bureaucrats have faced in their job etc.
Ok here's some insider info which I had gotten some 3 days back but was waiting for final clearance!
1. The members who have awarded above average marks to many - Kilemsungla, Vinay Mittal 2. Highest number of below 100 marks awarded - Rajni Razdan 3. Uniform distribution of marks across marking spectrum i.e marks awarded as per performance - David 4. Neither below average nor above average marks to many - Amar and DK 5. Below average marks to many - Chattar 6. Just about average marks to many - Manbir 7. Both very high marks and low marks - Alka and Rajni

@sanathan i too had my interview by david sir board.through out the interview he was very sincere looking and constantly staring at my face.the same thing you mentioned about your interview at the same board. so what may be our interpretation of this gesture.do you think he may be interested in us or it may be just a matter of his mood at that time.
The basic aim of this entire rendezvous is to gauge what the person sitting across the table is all about. How can questions on Crimea, the nuclear policy, his background subject et al help understand his 'personality'? Of course, the intention is to know whether the chappy is aware and knowledgeable but um, that's already been tested. Twice, at that!
If you really want to know what a person is like, give him the latitude of choice to talk about himself. Where he comes from, what he can bring to the table and how his presence as a bureaucrat would benefit us tomorrow. Ask him what he would like to talk about, let him open up about his hobbies and interests. Until and unless the candidate gets comfortable in his own skin, no matter what strategy is employed by the board, it will never lead to a 'personality' assessment.
