I want to know, is whatever given in chronicle specially the half of the magazine after finishing current affairs is aslo imporatant to cover? Whenever i read Chronicle , after reading current events notes given in magazine i leave the other half. Do you people do the same or there is flaw in my strategy? Please suggest and guide me the right way.
My suggestion to u is simple "leave chronicle" bhai if you read newspaper for 4 hours daily which is must then for a month it becomes 120 hours so plz dont waste ur prescious 50-60 hours in reading chronicle.as newspaper covers almost all the events in lucid manner so no need to do double ghada mazoori.hope u got it. Make a points from the hindu and write it down on blank paper. Make seperate file for IR,ECONOMY,POLITY, SCI-TECH and general news. Also read book review of tuesday it gives good coverage of whole book its actually quiet good fooder for essay.
But Rahul, reading newspaper for 4 hours would take most of the time if one studies 8 hours daily. One has to finish optional syllabus plus static portion.... how you manage it my friend?
If every candidates prepare for 8 hours daily , he/she could clear CSE in single attempt . But thats not the case , hardly people could cope up with the momentum.
Prepare judiciously . And whatever you hear about past candidates claiming to prepare for 15-18 hours daily , its just show-off nothing else .

Bhai not everyone who says they prepare for 15+ hours is a show off.. Many can do such extraordinary feats, its hard to believe unless u are with them and see them prepare... One of my IIT grad friend got IPS last year with studying just 6 months prior to prelims and I can assure u he was studying 16 hours daily and on a consistent basis.. He used to sleep at 6 in the morning and wake up at 1 in the afternoon and that was it for the day. This year he has qualified for interview again.. When I started my preperation, I hadn't taken coaching for GS and had abruptly quit public administration classes mid way and everyone was scaring the shit out of me that no GS coaching = can't qualify. This fear made me study almost 14-15 hrs per day and yet I couldnt qualify for interview in my 1st attempt.
----i second vibin on the time devoted question i myself asked two selected candidates and they said all this 15-16 hrs rigorous study is not actually true because actually it's just that the candidate studies for 14-15 hrs including taxes (gaps) which include take a 15 min break after 1.5 hrs or .5 hr break after 3 sessions etc and thus strictly its max 11-12 hrs on the peak ---but some also take a fortnight or weekend break . how mch time to devote must be a very personal question but it must be between 8-11 hrs on peak days and min 6 on when you feel low. ----reading newspaper for 4 hrs is not good because you follow newspaper daily to add content to current happenings inside mind and after reading a magazine(fortnightly or monthly) , web forumss with ca you consolidate all those fodder in mind and understand the issue comprehensively ----what to study in chronicle will only be known through practice like following newspaper to identify which news is important and widely covered like cremian issue , sc verdicts , geac decision etc taking look at last year QPs following some CA sites like mrunal , ipcs , epw , idsa etc.
Yes I agree with @rahulp. Simply leave chronicle. It is loaded with a lot of information so that they can later claim that majority of questions asked in the exam were from that magazine. Also for prelims more and more questions are from the core/static part with current relevance. So take clue from the current news and prepare that particular topic from a standard source. For mains in order to improve your analytical skill it is bettet to consistenly read a mix of two newspapers daily providing two different perspectives. A combination of Indian express and The Hindu will do. My advice is simply leave chronicle.
