Need to Remember Article numbers for Indian Polity?

edited March 2014 in Miscellaneous
Hello friends,

I need some help regarding Indian Polity. Do I need to remember all article numbers? I first tried remembering Article numbers but stopped it after 51. Polity has been my tough part of the syllabus - it is very boring but I have to do it.

Now I am concentrating only on Laxmikanth..the question is do I need to rememer the article numbers. Laxmikanth referred to some articles in some places. Is it ok to remember just those?

Seniors, please help!

Yes and no, the point is , u don't need to remember every article by number, its only the major ones you should remember by numbers, ones related to fundamental rights, fundamental duties, president, pm, parliament, courts SC and HC. and emergency procedures. also include cm, legislative assembly and governor. rest just learn the concept , concept mastery is must.

go and read last 15 years polity section of GS make note of articles that r asked in exams by number, u'll find that only very limited number are asked and if something else is asked they ask for an analysis, or interpretation or comment. so build your concept. laxmikants book is more than enouch for that.

    any thing else
  • there is no need of remembering the articles . For prelims , it is not at all necessary to do that .Your fundamentals should be strong enough to answer any kind of twisted and tricky question asked by UPSC , and that is what prelims is all about. No facts, no jugglery of statistics and numbers , no cramming, focus only on consolidating, cementing and furnishing the basics in every subject. Prelims would be a cake walk.

No subject is boring and no subject is interesting. Its a subjective psychology of human being of having attracted towards one thing and feel bored towards the other.
  • @sanki : Thanks for the reply. So fundamental rights, fundamental duties, president, pm, parliament, courts SC and HC. and emergency procedures articles needs to be remembered with numbers. They do cover major part though :(

Sure I will research on that. I will focus on Laxmikanth :)
  • @devendra_singh: Thanks for the reply. I will focus on building my concepts. This is my first prelims so these questions..

Regarding boring part..I like polity but remembering the article numbers is boring for me.

    @chisri : good luck dude.

you see, devendra is right , in prelims you won't get question with article numbers on it. its only in the mains that they ask for explaining or analyzing some article, only very limited number of common articles are asked in that way. thats what i said in the first place. Best is to clear your concepts, and i would advice you to solve as many mock questions as possible, mock questions help build concept, reduce mistakes. i have seen many guys knowing everything and still making small mistakes while answering in the exam.
so build your concepts , get them rock solid, and practice questions. that should be enough.
  • Keep on studying the polity syllabus multiple times, even without your knowledge u will start remembering the articles..
  • @rookie Thanks...I will revise again and again

@sanki Thanks..I will build my concepts first..I will need to practise a lot too..In forumias tests, I got most of my polity questions wrong :(
