I am following new NCERT's books for preparing prelims. I have found these books very helpful for basic understanding. I am confuseed for 'Modern India' part as books written by Bipin Chandra and 'Spectrum' are also very good. Should I follow new NCERT for Modern India blindly; or Bipin Chandra and Spectrumare are also worth reading for prelims?
For prelims, reading Bipin Chandra and Spectrum will be like eating drugs of dengue when you have caught just a simple plain fever. Reading of New NCERTs shall be coupled with either spectrum or Bipin Chandra. If you ask me personally I will suggest spectrum. We have plenty of Bipin Chandra's readers too. Reading spectrum and revising it as many times as possible will do miracle. Again, reading both 'spectrum' and 'Bipin Chandra' is not recommended unless you have ample amount of time to kill. - If you ask me for a recipe of History for mains, I highly recommend Sumit Sarkars's book along with Bipin Chandra's.(Consedring the fact that you have already read Spectrum's.)This combo will give you full control over 'any' level of tricky question from modern India History. [Note: Never attempt to read Sumit Sarkar's before reading Spectrum's Or BC's. Sumit Sarkar's requires pre-knowledge of modern History to understand the core concepts and high-degree of explanatory method it employs. Reading directly Sumit Sarkar's can backfire ]
As per my study goes in Modern History part, take my words, if the current trend of CSE continues in subsequent years, NCERTs are going to eventually loose their charm.
I, personally, do not think NCERTs help much in Modern History part. I am sure many people will concur. This number will increase in subsequent years. - NCERTs are over-emphasised at times.
