I have got the reports of 2nd ARC printed but i have no idea how to study it. So many pages..! whenver i sarted reading, i had to take a nap. Bipin chandra and other books were interesting..but not these reports. Its humble request to all u guys plz share how do someone study these reports
Steps to study ARC report 1. Arrange a table and chair 2. Sit facing north east(on monday and friday) on other days face west. 3. Put the book on the table 4. Open the report book. 5. Start reading. Hope this simple guide helps you. =P~
FIrst read the summary of each chapter given at the end. This gives broad picture of concerned chapter. During your second attempt, read relevant topics within the chapters which are directly or indirectly mentioned in the GS syllabus.

yahi soch soch ke or logo se pooch pooch ke last year 6 months nikal gae mains prep ke last year. finally, sirf recommendations padh ke gaya tha. baad me dekha to kaafi sawalo ka major content ban sakta tha, par recommendations se nahi main content se. especially in pub ad.
jo acha lage padho aur mark kar lo. jab ek round ho jae saare reports ka, start again and read left out parts.

dont worry about that, reports ban na start hone par news aa jaegi. abhi aisa koi plan nahi hai. 1st arc and 2nd arc ke beech decades ka gap tha.
btw, 2nd arc ki pehli report ie RTI wali 2006 me aayi thi and the last one released was in 2009 or 2010, ek din me saare reports nahi aate saalo lagte hain.
@narendra_9 What I do is that, I make small notes of important points in the ARC report. For example, the report on social capital has a chapter on SHG. SO, I write down the definitions, merits of SHGs, problems faced by them in India and a few examples (Kudumbashree, Grameen bank etc.), all of which are mentioned in the report. This doesn't take more than one side of an A-4 page. Ideally, you should compress 40-50 pages in one page. I skim through the entire report and jot down what I feel is important. This part however, might differ from person to person. I might feel that statistics are important while someone else might focus on government schemes and interventions. But while revising, you will get reminded of all the additional points that you haven't written down. For example, I have written just two words i.e. 'Grameen Bank' in my notes but while revising,I will get reminded of how it was formed, which country is it based in, what services are provided by it, what business model does it follow etc. etc. It is ok even if you miss some points in this process. No one expects you to remember the entire 1700 page report. The only key things are : 1) Concentrate while reading the report 2) Revise your notes frequently.
You also have to develop an eye for the unimportant points. For example, in that same SHG chapter, if they have mentioned the analysis of some initiatives from Mexico that you have never heard of, skip through those parts. Do this for 2-3 reports. You will get a hold of the process. Then , you can complete one report in one or two days. It won't be that difficult.
