mistakes not to make on mains exam day

  • Drinking too much water before the start of exam.
Drinking too many pints on the exam night to calm the nerves only to wake up hungover next day with your head throbbing with pain.
    Happened to me before prelims.
    Don't do it People.
    Yet you cleared the prelims.
These things actually help in the sense that people don't get time to be scared in exam :p

A wee bit is fine. Just don't overdo it that next morning you find yourself cursing at the friend who introduced you to alcohol in the first place 5 years ago .

Lack of attention while reading questions. Incorrect reading and writing wrong answers has done a huge damage to me at least in 2017 mains..1 15 marker completely wrong in GS1 and two 15 marker partially wrong...like n religiousity question I gave pre indepence example in second half of answer while they had asked post independence..similarly in IT cities challenges I wrote challenges of IT sector..lol wrote exports, GATS, etc...

1 Q of 10 marks in Indian philosophy also misread it ..

What reamins after such blunders is only regret..if - then wali cases bohot hote Hain..

Second thing is devoting disproportionate amount of time in any Q...this happended with me in GS4, GS4 is the most underprepared section...was able to write only 230 marks paper...last case study was blank n 1 theory question I drew only some flow chart ..

Approach, confidence, clarity etc is a different thing...there are other such things which we ignore during prepation also plays an important role in success in cse
  • Perhaps the biggest mistake I made was - I covered agriculture and gender issues in depth before essay exam.
Then those 2 topics came and I vomited everything I read.
Totally missed the demand of the essay

  • Very very helpful thread...Everyone contributing here can't be thanked enough..

    What was your essay score?
