you need to become an IAS officer. don't let negativity overpower you. When you decided that you want to be one, let it to completion. nothing else is the answer. do not listen to negative views. I am sure you can get your dream fulfilled.
@Criska87 dekho aisa hai yahan faltu pane ka gyaan sab pelte hai don't listen to them....backup exams dena and UPSC is like gambling (baar baar harne ke baad poora khatam khel)
First understand the nature of the task that you have decided to choose. It is called upsc civil services.
It is uncertain, very rewarding but needs patience. Lots and lots of patence. It also needs a person who can see the possibility of failure and still carry on with his life. Plus it takes two years for one attempt.
So If you Can give it one more year- without thinking about career, youth, chances lost , girlfriend, parents etc who are supporting you. Or in some cases bearing the pain of the process by getting stuck into it. If you have the ability to remain calm and tell yourself- okay this is what i want to do and i am totally fine with being an IAS at age 28,29 or Not being an one at age 28 then go ahead.
If you are someone who is going to worry about it. No matter what. You feel so bad and guilty about all of it, your life , people who care for you their lives. You think that you can not bear or afford another year of uncertainity. Then stop. Take up a job in private and give other exams. Give all the exams that come your way(be it for jobs or higher studies) and give next year's prelims after preparing for 3 months only( dont have super expectations) Or skip next year's exam alltogether. All in all your focus should be on the back up and then give the exam.
If you are someone who really don't like the idea of a back up. Who can not get serious for other exams and hate going back to the private sector. And after all give and takes, your decision is that you want to give it one or two more year 'of serious prep' . Then my dear friend, decide if you wish to give it 'without earning' or 'with earning' If its 'with earning' then join some caoching institute where work is not very demanding and if it is 'without earning' ie you want to really really give it all and have the financial support. In both cases you need to 'shift' near to work or near to library. And plan and execute.
Why i am saying all this is we are not clear about what we want. So many of us keep on feeling sorry for ourselves, we find ourselves directionless and weak. I have been through it and let me tell you it is of no use. What is of use is forgetting your ego, your past. And making a plan for next 3 years of your life. What exactly you want. Because if you still want to do upsc- full time, you need to plan accordingly plus think of the unceratinity too. If you don't want to face the same uncertainity next year then you need to take a job and more focus should be securing a job first.
What is of no use is thinking about things that could have happened, feeling nervous about next year, waiting for the night to end and day to being..then one month to end so that next can start.. soon it will be winters and soon notification will be out and you will still feel nervous about the exam and it could be that you feel underconfident.. and it could be that after all the hard work you fail. You need to know the nature of the exam and your own absorbing capacity.
Kindly have a plan and if it means taking 'risk' one more time then do not wait for the exam , kindly be ready for it. Force yourself into reading the newspaper, into waking up on time and sleeping on time, into feeling positive and not allowing negativities and past to surround you. Anyone getting into top ranks in 2019 attempt will start now only.. it will not be after 3 months but from july... you have full chance of getting into the ranks and if you think of yourself as a future rank holder you will change the way you approach the exam. Because you want to excel in it and not just appear in it.. you will have that yearing to be the best and you will try to do the most..
But still after 5-10 days or a month you are surrounded by same unceratinities my sincere advise would be to take up a job or have a back up first. 1-2 years delay really doesn't matter , you should know this after learning the nature of upsc.
Whatever it is please take a decision and train your mind into thinking gowards that direction only. Otherwise your mind will tease you a lot and you will keep repeating past mistakes- not studying, feeling sorry, studying, failing, feeling sorry, not studyihg.
