Dear Friends,
UPSC is like a chakravyu and to break its cycle is a difficult task. We dont even understand that it eats up some of the best years that we have got in a dream which if probabilistic-ally speaking is utopia if you take into account the population of India. I am not saying its not amongst the best jobs of the country but certainly the time we put in it is not worth the reward if you are taking more than 3 years.
I am sharing my own experience to help the young generation out here. The best solution to approach UPSC is to take a job after 2 years or at max 3 year. Otherwise the pressure keeps of building up and it makes your chances of clearing upsc that much less. Remember it is as much a game of nerves as that of knowledge.
So how to get out? There are not much options-obviously private jobs are easier but you wont be able to dedicate time for your future attempts. Hence the next step is to look for government jobs which are easy to crack. Lets see what are our options-
i)SSC
ii)IBPS
iii)Regulatory bodies
Now 1st step is to throw away your ego. If some one says its a clerical job or something else ask him whether he has qualified in anything or not. First get the job and then discuss if you will join it or not. Fill up every form that is available and try for it never give up on probability. Now I will get into specifics.
i)SSC - It is no longer a easy exam. People have mastered all the questions and it is not easy to have that kind of mastery at least for the top post. Dont compare this exam with before 2014 instances of the same exam. The competition has increased many fold. How to prepare with upsc according to me following can be the steps-
a) GS will be easy for you in prelims-so leave it...
b) Do last 6 - 7 years question and master them.
c) go for test series
I am assuming here that one who is going for have a bit of background in maths without that this option may not be easy for you. In that case you need to go for a short coaching just to understand the concepts. In case attempts are left this is the best option to go for.
As I said just aim for a job. The salary is decent and work load is also less.
ii)IBPS and Banking - This is also not a easy exam. However it has a certain repetitive trend and once you catch it banking exams will be easy. English is something that will give u an edge because of vast reading due to UPSC. I just did test series and more or less cleared most of the banking exams.
iii)Regulatory Bodies- RBI,IRDAI,SEBI,NABARD,SIDBI- Focus on these exams these have a written second paper which is a plus point for UPSC aspirants. However for that we need to clear prelims which is not at all easy because of high competition. For that you need to master IBPS type of examinations first. Not much information is available on internet for these exams which further makes them an easy target. Since coaching have not automatized the clearing process. However individual focus is required for each exam. These are one of the most highly paid government jobs in the country. For eg IRDAI Grade A gets around 90k per month. These jobs are for people who are trying to settle down and are in their late 20's.
Please write down if you have any queries regarding the above in the thread.
Best Of Luck
Arthur
