Why do people generally fill IAS as their first preference ?
IPS me kya problem hai ki rarely log ise first preference me daalte hain ?
Kya UPSC aspirant largely darpok hote hain ya utter selfish hote hain ?
Kya unhe law and order ki importance samajh nahi aati ?
Because any day IAS heads what ever dept. Say home secretary; it involves more work and more departmental managements rather than just law and order/security. Even SP at district level salute Dist collector. IPS has more risks - say u r posted in NE, naxal areas ... Again it depnds in ur interest ...
SP doesn't have to salute DM. SP salute DM only if the SP is junior to DM in seniority (in terms of batch). Also, if the DM (IAS) is from a junior batch to the SP (IPS), then the DM addresses the SP as "Sir/madam". However, in Disrict-level meetings, the DM acts a the Chairman and not the SP. However, in terms of visibility and celebrity status, IPS is far more famous than IAS officers.

what u spoke is crap....it would have been true 20 years back not now. SP can literally make life of a DM hell.
Yes, IPS Shivdeep Lande filed chargesheet against District collector in Bihar, on charges of corruption.
-being an IAS you will only report to IAS exclusively , all other services including IPS will bow down before you/your batchmates, if you choose/get other service you will have to serve an IAS officer -ips is on duty 24x7 (even when gone to senior level post ) IAS dont -political master knows only IAS -IAS lobby is the strongest and most powerfull collectivelly in india, you will feel proud to be part of it -all department including police,revenue are dominated by an IAS officer as its boss -not saying that IPS or any other service is good or bad , it depends on your intrest ; but IAS is hands down the best service in India be it in any form or view you take it . so if you have a chance choose IAS or else you may regret later.. do considerable amount of research ask serving officer if you must (there are people who choose others and now regret) -to begin with UPSC notification do offer clue about IAS when it says it is above all (it does mean that) -do not question the numero uno status of IAS from filing the UPSC form (or if not filling) till your death (or after) it was/is/and will remain no 1 service in govt job

After a lot of head banging, have realized there's no better place to live than India. Other countries seem very rosy, but the thorns are rarely visible. The experience is pretty bland, no colorful life outside of India.

What about ifs? I want to work and travel in different countries and make some money(not much, though) for my family needs. After retirement, I would like to settle in foreign. Is ifs the right job for it?
Moreover, My objective of preparing for UPSC is not any public service or make india great again. It's just pure self-interest and desire to have a good standard of living. Should I fill ifs the top priority in daf?
Ifs is a great service for me it's above ias , as it has certain things which can never be provided to me by ias , yes ifs is the right service for ur own interests , and trust me after interacting with many fellow selected candidates I have realized very few come for public service they are here for that other thing, like someone has said about ias , this is the mindset of most , or else public service u can do in other services as well , infact u don't need a service for public service, every service has something different offer unfortunately we generally ignore the work aspect of the service and go for what's outside
You are in a good path , atleast u have clarity on what you want and what you don't want

No man I am not appearing any more as I said in a post , I am pretty sure I will not last here for more than 10-15 years , so why to fight again in this rat race, I will be able to achieve what I wanted to achieve even through irs , I have lost the enthusiasm for any particular service as I had realised that its just a means and it can never be the end , I need to upgrade myself and learn all the time and can never be stagnant, and for that it's just a means
