Yaar, Pavneet ka book bahut heavy hota hey IR ke liye if your optional isn't PSIR. But if you are giving the exam in 2019 then you can get through some of the basics in it. Usually, for non PSIR students, vision+some contemporary news site like Diplomat/IDSA/Project Syndicate/ chal jayega.
And David Malone is an "old" book now, it was written in 2013/2014. So some of the analysis is a lil' dated. If you are interested Shyam Saran ( ex Foreign Secy) has written a new book. It is a fun read.
And for World History you can do your basics from NCERT but it is a pain. Another alternative is Norman Lowe which is also on the heavier side. So do the heavy lifting once, make notes and be happy. Also, Vision Booklet is reasonably good.

is it good from gs point of view ? some say its quite bulky. One of my main concern is sometimes i am not able to grasp the background of IR parts from newspaper alone. Internet has multiple sources for one topic.

If you have time you can read it. Dont run away from booms by looking at its size. Shortcut dont work in this exam. Dont fall for toppers advise that minimuze yourbsources. They all lie in front of cameras. Kabhi akele main puchna. You need to have extensive knowledge base. Pavneet book is written for gs only. However skip section two since it pertain to ideologies which is not required in gs answers.
For world histiry ncert 11th 12th are goid old one. Or norman lowe. But dont try these if you are giving 2018 mains if not done before.
And dont think that there is some shortcut to clear this exam.
