Difficulty level of MAINS

Everyone now knows the do's and dont's of mains like structure, diagram,point wise etc. But after the results everyone says competition level is very high and some unknown X Factor is missing.

I am starting my journey. What I feel(high probability of me getting wrong).

It's literally not possible to follow structure, exactly addressing question, diagram and whatever we heard on every question. We can answer say 14 questions satisfactory but not 20.SO OUR AIM SHOULD BE TO ANSWER RELEVANTLY ALL 20.and 20 questions relevantly and satisfactory answered will do it for sure.

OR

Or is it like ki mains competition is so high that giving 100 percent to 20 questions is not sufficient (unless luck permits).
