  • What do you mean by 'aggressive' population control? Do you mean like something like China's One Child Policy or like the steps taken during the Emergency?
  • not like how china did, but we certainly need same passion, aggression like no govt job, no licence of business.. etc..
my simple question is, why nobody even talks about it..
  • There is politics called vote bank and some particular sections in India want to capture India( or whole world ) by population and they are the major vote bank of secular parties .

Hindu population has stabilized already only that section is increasing .
  • I think for population control, the experiment during Indira Gandhi's time is very fresh in everyone's mind. No politician today can even think of discussing having it at a large scale. If u want to know the details, ask elders in your family. It was mostly Sanjay Gandhi's idea and implementation. It had instances of forced vasectomy of men, especially poor people.

Having said that, there have been decisions taken in some places. Like at Panchayat level in Rajasthan, one cant stand for elections if they have more than 2 children.
Also, there are other restrictions too. Like less maternity leave and other benefits for the third child onwards(Matritva sahyog yojana etc).

Also, female fertility levels have automatically decreased today in most communities, with urbanisation and development, albeit with a few exceptions. Fertility level is ideally supposed to be 2.1 for a country.
And yes, vote bank politics is also a reason for this. Anyone who does talk about it, is targetted for being unsecular. Though in a few cases, it is true. :grimace:

Frankly, I feel there should be some criteria such that every child can receive good education and nutrition.

Also, I have just noticed that almost all restrictions are placed on women. Which ignores the societal and family pressures that women go through for having children or a male child. Sometimes they have no say in it.
Also, rape victims are not allowed to have abortions after 24 weeks. Even minor rape victims. Despite doctors saying that it could endanger the life of the girl. And they are supposed to go to court for this. It is most shocking for me. Because this is not just physical and mental trauma for the victim but birthing a child is a life long thing. And one born out of rape... I dont know how to feel when this kind of injustice is prevailing today. Ultimately, either this child will be ignored, or put into adoption. In very rare cases would it have a normal life.

As for voting rights. I think this right was won with a lot of struggle, so having restrictions on it seems unethical sort of. At the same time, people's ignorance of the importance of this right is worrisome. Its possible that in future, there might be some law or rule on this. But first this needs proper debate in the public sphere. The pressure should come from the public rather than imposed from the top. Only then will it be accepted, else there will be backlash. Since we are a democracy, we need to uphold its ideals
  • decade growth rate

that is not counting many illegal bangladeshis crossing to assam and nearby areas . It is growing pathetic like any other third world banana republic
  • Yes. I agree with you. We really need some strict population control policy. We are growing fastly. Sometimes i wonder how we gonna manage this much population in future. This is not even an issue among political parties but i think it should be the most important issue. Failure of indira gandhi policy may be the reason but govt. Stiil need to step up. Modi can do this in his second term. He is strong. He has support. Issues related to Environment, Terrorism, poverty needs to be tackled strictly regatdless of their cost. What we gonna do with freedom of expression and democracy if we don't have enough resources to fullfill everyone's basic needs.
  • Nobody worries about population explosion in india if somebody does other fake economist will counter by inciting demographic dividend. Concept of demographic dividend is delusion. How can we give employment to unlimited number of people. Growing economy too has limitations of job growth. Automation is increasing. With this rate of Automation we can't even provide jobs to the current population forget about population after 15-20 years. We need to make and implement not 2 child policy but one child policy. Demographic dividend is delusion to attract FDI from foreign countries and to feel Imagined pleasure and false hope at domestic level.
  • Are you guys living in the 70s?

Population growth in some states have stabilized, and maybe it'll reach replacement levels in few years. We need to focus on the backward states which are still going strong. The government is working hard to ensure stable population levels. Many schemes have already been implemented to check population growth, like for ex, in Assam, there is an upper limit of 2 children for government jobs.

Also, it would be wrong to compare us with China as we are a democracy. The government cant just impose radical measures. The change has to come from within. So @Walt_Disney , be an agent of this change and dont marry in this life.

Termination of pregnancy, is a sensitive topic to debate on. However, I believe there should be some sort of a legal supervision or oversight for abortions. Else, it may skew the sex ratio even more as indirectly in a way, it'll make abortions easier.

Women have to be empowered. They should have a say in every household matter including family planning. In case of rape victims, the situation gets a bit complicated specially if she is a minor. I believe, here, parents of the victim should have an authority to take the final call.

This will only reduce the local populations , the main issue is illegal immigration here . Bangladeshis do not come here for govt jobs . Voting rights should be stopped or something similar radical only then it will stop .
