Political Science & IR or Mathematics Optional

I have a doubt regarding choosing optional b/w Pol Sci & IR OR Maths (Background Engineering). I am comfortable with both subjects - Pol Sci, IR especially as it is very dynamic & related to current affairs. On the other hand, Maths is a subject where full marks are possible.

My doubts -

1. If scaling down happens in Maths, is it better to take Pol Sci as an optional?
2. Is it possible that Marks got in Pol sci would be more than the scaled down marks in Maths; even if marks in Maths are more?
