  • Do candidates who go before or after us matter in how much marks are awarded?

Is the "panel of impartial and unbiased observers" immune from the charms and follies of other candidates?

I know there can only be speculation or empirical proof at best w.r.t. This, but what's your opinion?

The candidate before me was in DANIPS through CSE2014 and the one after me is in Railways through IES. :/
Don't focus much on In service people. 50 % of them are there because of "Reservation Subsidies"
As you also know, just because somebody is in service, doesn't mean he is the smartest or well meaning personality.

But if you are referring to people with awesome personality
e.g I met one IRS in last interview, who knew 7 languages, including Mandarin. His DAF was superb with so many accolades. (Olympiads, Sports and all). and why he was awesome ? [ because he was not shouting from top of his voice in manner of Choman Raini, but one of the most humblest people I have ever met.

Now if people you refer were in this league, definitely one may look pale. and IRS has nothing to do with it.
(You know the case of Rank 8 (IPS) and his interview marks)

Second point, about them being unbiased, that is not possible for any human being. one may be less biased but human biased always creeps in. Some people have the notion, that strong acad is must to perform best in life. some people pay more focus on street smartness or practicality. Someone with sports background may attach more importance to physical fitness etc..Definitely, they won't be as biased as I think them to be. But at the end of the day, they are humans. and as a species we have tendency to be biased.

[To know more about it, I would recommend reading ]

Third, there are some known parameters about CSE interview which are not disputable,
like Confident but humble, genuine charming personality. and I think, this holds maximum weight in CSE Interview.

P.S. As I have said, as humans we have tendency to be biased based on life experiences and same applies with me as well. so you should also consider this as highly opinionated opinion.

  • I was referring to book by Daniel Kahneman, Thinking, Fast and Slow

aap pura biased ho gaye hain
jise aap personality kehte hain wo uska natural advantage ya yun kahen life me asani se oppertunity mili.
usse ye puch lete ki genhu ke fasal me kitta baar pani dena hai ya aloo ka fasal kaise lagana hai toh uski personality 0 ho jati in my opinion.
aur dusri baat UPSC Cse ke liye jayda matter karti hai personality wise
  • One can easily make out my bias with my choice of words in the above post. It was intentional to make the point. Though I don't detest reservation as a matter of policy as such but the phenomenon of cornering of benefits by reserved Elites. But imagine me being in the board. :p
