Foreign Policy site, most articles it is saying need subscription to read as they are premium articles.
Do you have subscription to it, if not how did you manage to get hold of those articles.
I don't have a subscription but one jugaad I use is to stop the webpage from loading (by pressing escape key) in that couple of seconds between the article loading and the subscription pop-up appearing.
Hi Friends, Could you please suggest (i) Does shubhra mam dictate all that material which is written in her hand-written notes that we buy from some book shop, or (ii) she gives this hand-written (existing) material in printed form to the students and dictates only the 'updates' as and when needed in that material, thus (iii) are her classes more focused on 'writing the dictations by students' or 'discussing the questions and strategies by the teacher and writing-practice sessions by student', please suggest and (iv) if i'm a first timer with almost no exp with writing pol sci answers but have read most of the basic pol sci books, then will it be better to join her classroom batch or buy the notes and then join the test series
@iStartNow 1. she dictates everything ,, handwritten notes r her class notes , you would be writing same notes in class. 2. you can ask questions ,discuss matter and then she dictates !! (every thing not just updates) 3. see in pol sci argument can go forever ,, every theory ,ideology, thinker has some positive and negatives. 4. if you find pol. theory and ideology easy then u can refer her notes only ,, her class is for regularity /daily coverage of pol sci , and that too in simplistic manner !! its upto you !!
@amiteshsirvaiya Thanks a lot. By looking at your writing with organized thinking, it seems you've already developed good writing skills, it seems you've a first-hand exp by yourself or very-close-second-hand exp by some of your close friends about maam's classes. Is PolSci your optional too ? Actually i was thinking to join Shubhra maam's oct classes but it does not seem to be possible for me, as of now, due to health problems. Could you please suggest, (i) will it possible to get the hand-written notes of maam's june 13 batch which is currently going on (or i've to buy only the older ones) (ii) and after getting the notes which all things i'll be missing, if i'm not attending the classes and, please also suggest (iii) in a video on maam's site on topper says that if going to classed all the updates and IR material are consolidated and we don't need to look for diverse sources, then (a) say, for june 13 batch once their classes are over in sept then will maam supply the then-current consolidated mateiral (oct - next dec) to them also or it will be for new batch only, (b) during classes does maam supply some hand-outs which are not their in her hand-written notes (c) some one told me that there are daily answer writing sessions, is it true and if yes, then are the copies also checked regularly and remarked upon by maam. It will be really really helpful.
@iStartNow i am attending her classes in june 2013 batch ,, i am an engineer .. handwritten notes of june batch will be available in the market may be in nov or dec !! except class notes she distributes photocopy of certain section of a book or notes on certain issues. i dont think for international relations you need any coaching but as i said earlier theories ,western political thought, international theory can be tricky . frankly speaking i joined her classes so that i can cover pol sci quickly which i was not able to do by myself ( purchased o p gauba in 2012 only but never read it :P same with andrew heywood ). so it was for momentum and inception in a subject about which i had no previous knowledge. she updates her notes ,, mainly in IR and INDIAN POLITY ( theory and thoughts remains same ). good thing about her is she is cooperative and flexible. as you would be reading news paper (hindu , IE etc) u can supplement and update notes by urself. i dont think she would provide separate hand outs for june batch after batch is over. lets see !! and yes, NO daily answer writing sessions , dont know who told you , ya daily scribbling of notes in there :P i hope you can take ur decision now.
@amiteshsirvaiya Thanks a lot amitesh. Me too, an engineer (actually a SE) like so many of our peers in the competing crowd for '14. Your advice really helped me a lot. i feel myself at comfort with ideology and pol theory, yes o.p. gauba is really really a very good book but a little slower and time-consuming, to be followed. That daily answer writing, one friend told me and on asking him he told that he got this here - IAS Toppers: Namrata Gandhi in the video at maam's website, at around time 02:55 onwards, she says 'there were Daily writing practice sessions which helped me to keep my answers specific and short' :-) , and this was the Biggest reason for which i was planning to attend classroom coaching. Now there is going to start a new batch for mains '13 for 40 hours duration with fee 12k in which there will be discussed the answer writing formats and updates in pol sci in previous, say, one year. So i think this type of batch will be there next year too. As due to health problems i think i may not join oct batch, so the next best thing would be to join this type batch or to join a classroom batch, if next one being started in feb or march '14 when oct batch ends, because prelims is in Aug.
@amiteshsirvaiya Hey amitesh, except maam's hand-written notes is there something like vajiram's political notes also, and if it is, is it of some use after maam's notes !!
