Prelims 2014 Strategy for those who couldn't make it this time

edited August 2013 in Miscellaneous
Although it may seems we have lost this battle but we have not lost the war....We will have to rise from our ashes just like phoenix....
Actually it is quite shocking and heartbreak for those who couldnt make it because of level of expectation, responsiblities, future plans, self esteem.. all have shaken... But this is the time when your real self come out and situation like this test your manhood....
First of all ,those candidates who are in dire need of job should waste no time in filling application for jobs ...There are so many govt jobs application still open whose deadline have not crossed yet....
Those candidates who were seriously preparing for MAINS will have clear advantage in state civil services...they can go for this if they want...
We have still RBI grade B officer exams coming which requires rigorous preparation...

But the most important point for us is CSE 2014...We have almost 1 year left. Here we have nothing to loose and many things to gain. We will have to keep in mind that for mains one has just 3 and half months to prepare, so actually there is no time at all for mains. One will have to complete the syllabus for mains before prelims. We will have to make sure that expected prelims score should not fall anywhere close to expected cutoffs..means atleast 50-60 marks more than expected cutoffs. So actually we are not left with any buffer period and we will have to accept the fact that we lacked somewhere in our preparation....self evaluation, self correction and self preparation are the things what are required.....All the best for CSE 2014.....

will again write mains, third time. could not qualify for interview in 2012 and could not get through final list in 2011.

i just want to share my 5 points for those who could not make it. pls treat it in good spirit , as coming from another brother who has gone through equal disapointment as different phases of UPSC.

    1. Go take a break. Do not start studying immediately, at least for 15 days

    2. Find out which was your week portion - Paper 1 or Paper II. How to find out? A sufficient score in Paper I will be around 100+ and a good score in CSAT paper will be at least 140+.

    3. with above marks as benchmark, u can find out which is weaker. if by general keys, u get equal marks in both papers - then your paper || is weak, because ideally most most people will score 140 in II and 100 in I

4.Once you have identifies your weak paper, make a list of things you need to do to make it strong. For GS make a list of books which you will need to do. a good book list is given below -

    http://forumias.com/gyan/prelims-book-list

    5. For CSAT paper, just get CL/Vajiram/any coaching institute material and practice it. have another friend around so that you can compete. those who want to specialy read a book, you can see this book below-

    http://www.flipkart.com/cracking-csat-civil-services-aptitude-test-solved-papers-2011-12-paper-2/p/itmddddkgvzpzj6g?pid=9789350940273&otracker=from-search&srno=t_1&query=arihant+csat&ref=1fe0922f-2a3a-4408-b992-ae8318ed7d1a

Practice. Practice. Practice. 8 out of ten times, if u get a good score in these test papers, u will get a good score there also. of course lady luck will always have a score.

    Best of luck everyone

P.S. No IIT , no IIM, No Einstein Brain, Just Hard Work
