  • On the subject of atheism : Is this hypothetical god fellow an atheist itself? The ramifications of the answers are mind-blowing.

yes ,is it immoral.let it b
Faith is a fancy word for wishful thinking. It is the absolute lowest standard of evidence as it requires NO evidence. There is just as much evidence supporting the existence of flying purple fairies that orbit the earth as there is supporting the existence of your god. So if it is irrational to believe that purple fairies are real, it is also irrational to think gods are real and to organize your life around them.

Religion isn't the root of all evil, but it is the root of MOST evil. It accounts for ALMOST EVERY SINGLE BATTLE BEING FOUGHT. Good people do good things. Bad people do bad things. But if you want to get a good person to do bad things, religion really helps. Religion might make you feel warm and fuzzy. But it is also getting a lot of people killed.

Religion was created by kings and priests to fool stupid, gullible people who would then later be used as their slaves. Its a shame even in 21st century ,people believe in 1000 gods and messengers. As it is a sensitive issue,i dont want to write about it more.
but you may have to write about it in mains, or talk about in interview. You would articulate the same sentiment somewhat differently then, I guess.
Yes,is it immoral?.Let it be.I strongly believe in communism but that could not be expressed in mains or interview.Certainly its not hypocrisy of mine, its their fault to regard people who love communism as terrorists. So,I have no other way then to express my views in a slightly tweaked manner. We could not express every feeling of ours even to our mother, brother or friends as people would judge us according to their own views. So,there is no other way then to wear masks accordingly. After all, that's what society expect from us.
UPSC Mains answers are all about proving your powers of acquiescence to the values laid down by our political class. That's the whole point of a 'subordinate executive.' Discordant voices would certainly have their scores 'adjusted to reflect the overall performance in the paper, rather than just bring scored on the individual question.' Either you master the art or look at your career alternatives.
I don't know the cause in your case, but unfortunately the exam which should be recruiting people who can make a difference is turning most of them into 'whats-the-point' kind.
  • It is ok to criticise certain things which happen around us as @Burger has mentioned but its not right to demean religion per se.
Religion has its own philosophy and science has its own. If science cannot prove religious teachings, preachings or ideas doesnt mean they are wrong. No truth is absolute and maybe in future what seems irrational becomes rational. Thats the way its been till now.
Coming back to the topic as @BANE_007 has explained it is the society that demands these things. If this gives them hope and desire to continue living then its not wrong either. No one is fool here. Noone is forcing you to accept or adhere to them. Just because one doesnt agree to them you'd call them irrational, illogical or stupid is not right either. Everyone has his/her choice to believe what they think is right.
I feel religion has also been made a commodity to sell just lIke everything else in this modern world. So to say religion is the cause of every suffering is wrong. Its the people which have made it like this.
  • The biggest mistake you can make is to expect rational behaviour from irrational creatures. Let them live out their lives in delusion. Evangelical rationalists are just as deluded because they subscribe to an essentialist romanticism of rationality. In the end, it ads up to nothing. We're on a trajectory from nothingness to nothingness. The details of our path in between don't matter - religious or not is a subset of that irrelevance.
dada congrats for sainthood of teresa and her miracles
  • all the atheists commies marxists have gathered here enmasse may be the hindu newspaper is slowly succeeding in its aim to make india another cuba or china
  • Atheism or rationality is the religion of the 21st century. No offence to anyone. But religion and rationality are not disjoint sets as often perceived.

That's a saint that even Marxists and atheists can bow in honour to. Truly happy for the recognition; not much about the magic mumbo jumbo. St. Teresa of Calcutta sounds heavenly, though, even to the likes of me. ;)

True.. they are just a way of life.. they are just choices.. and they are just the same.. one follows abstractness.. other follows reason..

This exam is an eye opener. Either you accept the ugliness or move on. Frankly, there isn't anything in this rather than pure vanity. Nobody becomes a St. Teresa after joining CS and no St. Teresa ever needed to join the CS to work for the people. I'm just stuck in the middle because of sunk costs.
  • religion and science are one and the same.. they just express themselves in a different way.. the source for both religion and science is philosophy..
